Wow. Sad. Last year I was digging through old CDs for a DJ Sneak party I was on the lineup for. I came across one that had sharpie on it and said, “SHIFTY”. It made me pause because I hadn’t thought about or listened to that cd in probably 15-20 years. Before I moved to Canada almost 10 years ago, I was a Cali girl. Around 2001-2003 before I started my career in DJing, I was a singer-songwriter and I can’t recall fully, but I was either just doing background vocals or working on tracks with my friend, TC. One day we were in the studio and it was Shifty calling on the phone. Never met him (that I remember), but I heard/spoke to him on the phone at least once. TC and Shifty were starting to work together and we shelved our project and he said he was going to work with TC for a while. We lost touch and I always wondered what happened to TC, and TC/Shifty. I went on to music school and DJing for over 2 decades. The last few years I’ve been back to producing and writing songs with my voice again. So, it’s a bittersweet full circle to hear shifty died today. I may need to pop in that CD that says Shifty on it and see what we were up to. I just remember writing hooks in the studio and life took us all on a turn. I got sober Dec 6, 2012 and such. I Hope TC is alright, because well, i just hope he found his way. I miss AM, too. Just like when Taylor Hawkins' death made the news back in 2022, I didn't want to believe that he really died and I've just reacted the same way towards this news story. I really like Crazytown, may Shifty rock in peace. I so hope we don't lose another rock legend.
@christco1203 ай бұрын
Legend? I think that may be a bit of a stretch. Actually a lot of a stretch. He was a laughingstock. I mean, I didn't wish him harm but this isn't exactly a major blow to rock n roll.

This is so sad. First we had it with grunge (Kurt Cobain, Scott Weiland, Chris Cornell), and now we're at the age where the nu metal singers are leaving us way too soon as well. We've already lost Wayne Static, Chester Bennington and now Shifty, and I rather don't want to think about who's next - maybe Jonathan Davis? He has been a mess for ages as well.

I find it very sad that there are outlets/channels out there reporting on things the second they happen. yeah, I know... that's just like the news. but the news is the news. this is a new type of capitalization on tragedy that just rubs me the wrong way. ESPECIALLY since this is just a 2 min 20 second bumper slapped on an old video. but what do I know.... I've only worked in video production since 1997.

So half the video is an old video you did 2 years ago? Grow up

Not surprised he died. From all his "problems/demons" he had, he always came across as someone that didn't want to be sober.

One hit wonders are great!!! You have a hit!!! It's all about how you treat yourself. It's difficult when you have an addiction. Especially when you're riding the coattails of a hit you made and there's money flowing.

I probably wouldn't have noticed "Butterfly" if it weren't for that great guitar work that calls to mind things like "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the MGs. It seems that some of their fans were turned off by the "girlie" lyrics, but I liked the irony between the romantic lyrics, aggressive vocals and the clash of styles blended into the arrangement; it was like a fever dream. It's too bad they never really got past their demons. RIP

They were the pinnacle of 90's post grunge lameness. Everyone hated them. And the song sucked because it just a sample of a Flea riff.

Everyone on here saying he was a nice guy,well that was becoz he was high,take the drugs away and they're different people ,inpatient,angry,volatile,selfish not good to be around,a good guy beats his addiction and gets on top of things then moves forward.

I remember CrazyTown being booed offstage and pelted with bottles at Ozzfest 2001 in Toronto. As they left the stage, the vocalist guy abused the crowd... and then the skinny guitar dude tried to yell something at the crowd, but they'd already cut the mics. 😅

Anthony kiedis, in his autobiography, did not refer to shifty as a close friend...he dismissed the band overall. Unless shifty was close to other members.

Another CD on the infamous " Do Not Buy" List at the used record store I worked at in the early 2000s. People brought in " The Gift of Game " almost every day and we already had 20 copies we couldn't sell. Game Over!

He had a good heart his spontaneous performance at Norms Rare Guitars on youtube was way kool. Yes he looked happy singing his song with just a guy on guitar. He was dancing and was really into it smiling .. some of the comments are saying he looked bad sang bad etc...but you vant escape the fact that he conveyed true emotion and a infectious groove and hook. Go check it out. Happy place . R.I.P.🙏🏽
