Typically used for hunting, in small areas, with roads n houses closer than you'd see in big open country. For that, the projectiles are stumpy 1oz. Slugs that are grooved to match the pattern inside the barrel, a really powerful wallop and accurate for about 100 yards and in.. I had one of these. The bolt is retained by a screw in the side of the receiver. Without that screw, it will just come out of the gun when you cycle it back. Somebody sued Sears because they bopped themselves in the nose, resulting in a recall where the bolts were sent back for a refund. As a result, many if these guns are still floating around missing their bolts. Apparently Sears accepted bolts for these shotguns in exchange for either a payment or maybe a gift card as late as the mid 2010s, although I'm fuzzy on the details.
@bryanphillips24433 ай бұрын
Not at all true. The actual recall states that the part of the receiver that holds the bolt in place during firing can shear and send the bolt back into the shooter's face potentially causing death. Only the 12 gauge model was affected. I have a 16 gauge model that shoots fine but I don't really shoot it any more as a safety production.

Back before my dad passed away, we went on a deer hunt, and instead of taking my 30-06, I told dad I was going to hunt with that 20 ga. in a dense area with a small creek running through it. I was using Federal heavy load slugs. And sure enough within an hour. I laid down a very nice 10 point that came out about 20 yards from me. I was so happy that day.

Fun fact, it's possible for the safety switch to become damaged in such a way that if its on safe it drops the sear when you lock the bolt turning it into a slam fire, and that switch can be easily pushed to safe unintentionally. Discovered this when my friend shot the range floor with one while cycling the bolt.
@terrybailey96213 ай бұрын
Had that happen with mine but that was because the stock split and was applying pressure just right. It also won't go off unless you slap the bolt down because the bolt handle translates directly to firing pin travel like almost all other bolt actions. May have had to slap the bolt down to get a pheasant that day but hey it still worked 😂😂

Correct
@dee52983 ай бұрын
The fault was that, if you didn't turn the screw that holds the bolt in place all the way in and did not complete the bolt's cycle, the bolt would come flying back and you may possibly require reconstructive surgery or some wires.

I always wondered as a kid if there was a bolt shotgun. My dad laughed at the notion and said "Why not a pump?" and it always made sense to me that he said that. Now, as an adult, I recognize that some people just do some stuff just because they can. It's nice.
