I go to the US International Kuo Shu Championship Tournament to film the lei tai fights every July. I should have all the matches since 2014 on my KZbin channel. After watching both USAWKF (United States of America Wushu-Kungfu Federation) Sanda and USKSF (United States Kuo Shu Federation) lei tai these with a common benchmark, I will admit this: USAWKF Sanda is definitely at a higher level and standard of competition and technical skill, but although USKSF lei tai is generally sloppier and much more amateur, it is still entertaining to watch, you'll always find a show there lol

@JBfan88 No I don't, but multiple users have added my videos to playlists, you can easily search then filter for playlists of lei tai videos on KZbin: kzbin.info?search_query=lei+tai&sp=EgIQAw%253D%253D I am not aware of any "World Kung Fu Championships" in Texas, just the HYX 16th World Wushu Championships in Fort Worth, Texas last November, and that's modern/sport/contemporary Wushu including Sanshou/Sanda, which is not the same as traditional kung fu.

No, the Lei Tai Equipment Requirements state, "Gloves must weigh at least 4 ounces (120 grams) and no more than 6 ounces (180 grams) for size medium or larger gloves. For size small gloves, gloves must weigh no less than 3 ounces (85 grams). The fingers and palm must be able to open. Padding on the thumb is optional. Gloves may not have been modified."

The lei tai (擂台; lèitái, literally "raised platform") was historically used between fighters who challenged each other in China, most notably between Chinese martial artists, where forcing the opponent off the lei tai counted towards victory. Yes, there is always a degree of risk when falling off the lei tai, but the organizations behind the Chinese styles of full-contact fighting competitions are unlikely to get rid of it, due to it being one of the few culturally distinctive features that separates it from other combat sports. I would like to cite my interview “From A Platform Judge’s Point of View: An Interview with Mark Lorenzo About Sanda”, where I interviewed Mark Lorenzo, a former Guoshu (国术; guóshù, traditional Chinese martial arts, literally “national art”) lei tai champion of this tournament the year this video's footage was recorded and made (he is shown in this video, as the yellow fighter bowing from 0:02-0:04 and 0:10-0:14, as the blue fighter in his first fight with the knee strikes in the clinch from 0:27-0:29 and the clinch knee TKO from 1:29-1:33 in that same fight, and finally as the yellow fighter in his final fight with the takedowns from 2:45-3:11 lol), where he states, "the lei tai, I’ve heard complaints about that from the outside world of, 'Why is this platform [there]?' And, 'You can just push people.' What I would say to that though is, you know, if you look at someone who could strike like Mike Tyson, I don’t think you could just push him off a platform. You have to have a game, you have to do things. Generally, when you see people going off the platform, they’ve made a mistake. They’ve gotten a kick caught, and they get run, or they’ve not had ring awareness and they’ve backed up too far." Apart from the obvious symbolic value of the iconic, traditional fighting platform, its substantial effect on fighting tactics and strategy also arguably contributes greatly to distinguishing Sanda from other kickboxing styles: the larger area favours evasion over blocking, as well as a more side-on stance (and therefore side kicks) for rapid in-and-out footwork. At the same time, its lack of ropes forces vigilant spatial awareness and control. Even the techniques used to force opponents off the platform (such as shoves set up by strikes, ‘run-offs’ from kick catches, and sacrifice throws) arguably enhance [the] unique Chinese identity."

In the old time lei tai fights, if you got fall off the platform you lose; in the you got pushed out of the platform your tactics in these fights like bound wrestling skills to help you turn the tables

Most traditional martial arts are in fact MMA....Kung Fu, Taekwondo, Karate all have grapples, takedowns, elbows, knees in them... It's in the forms and katas they do, those are all supposed to simulate grappling techniques... The problem is that governmental regulations in countries like China, sporting associations and the Olympics have made all these stupid rules to "protect the fighters from harm" that essentially watered down these traditional martial arts... I used to do ITF Taekwondo as a teen and the sparring matches were brutal despite some weird rules like not being allowed to kick the legs, but you could punch and kick to the face and grapple or clinch.... Nowadays Taekwondo sparring and competition is so pathetic, they've even removed the punches and has basically become foot fencing.... And don't even get me started on Karate, old school karate used to allows grapples, take downs and throws even if it were point fighting matches or full contact matches... Now look at karate... The full contact aspect has been completely removed and there's barely any grappling or throwing allowed aside from the occasional foot sweep.... I mean the Olympics disqualified a guy because he knocked out his opponent in a karate match for using "unnecessary force"....the Olympics has ruined most traditional martial arts

It is Kung Fu. This is what it looks like in full contact, a lot like kickboxing with a few unorthodox techniques here and there. The big complex movements are the minority in Kung Fu, not the entire art. Kind of like how you don't see the more complicated techniques very often in other fighting sports like kickboxing and MMA. I don't think anybody's actually landed a Gogolplata inside of the octagon to this day, that doesn't mean what they're using on the ground isn't BJJ.

It is definitely Kung Fu. This is what it looked like before the 1940s. If I had to guess most of the fighters here are trained in Sanda. Maybe also Bagua

So, kung fyu forms are more or less to teach proper movement and internal (body mechanics) applications of fighting technique. Yes, there are techniques in forms, but you have to learn how to apply them while actually fighting. So, mostly, they just look like kickboxing or grappling techniques.

Mr.CoolHats gong fu actually has or can have any and all fighting techniques within. That is why so many style exist--every person has their strengths and movements they perform better than other movements. Take Baguazhang for example. Traditionally, it doesn't seem like it has clinch or knees, but in my style, the fire palm set of movements are very close to clinch fighting in muay thai or close range boxing.
