You are an absolute legend for doing these videos. So nicely laid out and easy to understand, as well as showing how your choice of even a few optional rules can have a big impact on the game

Between this and the Kabal combat example I’ve determined that numbers are the most powerful advantage you can get in GURPS. With that in mind I can see why the Ally advantage is controversial the ability to tip the action economy in the party’s favor is invaluable, even a weak ally can provide an incredible advantage to the players if they’re built to fill a niche.

tl;dr, avoid combat as much as possible unless you have same or more people on your side than against. And for DMs its probably a best way to balance the encounters by tweaking the numbers of attackers, just +1 or -1 bandit in a group makes huge difference.

Hello! Where did you find the rules on what size affects melee attacks? It's just that in the Basic table, size only affects ranged combat. (page 547) Happy New Year!
@dungeonsandgurps Жыл бұрын
Initially, it appeared in the FAQ for the Basic Set (www.sjgames.com/gurps/faq/FAQ4-3.html#SS3.4.2.23), but then was reprinted in Pyramid #3-77. Happy New Year!

@@dungeonsandgurps Thank you! But can you please also tell me where you got the information that the shield strike does not receive a penalty for the left hand (it was in the video about the shields, but there you did not specify the page from where it is). Ah, and thank you very much for your videos, they help you figure it out very much!

GURPS combat is a helluva lot swifter than D&D combat in my opinion.
@dungeonsandgurps Жыл бұрын
To be honest, the swiftness of combat depends more on the players than on the system. If every player goes "uh... I will.. uh... let me calculate the modifiers and the success chance... no, let's try something else... uh...", then combat takes forever regardless of the system.

Is it me or did you inverted the multiplier for cutting (x1.5) and impaling (x2)?
@Yoloman147 Жыл бұрын
Impaling on limbs is x1 and the artery thing might add another x0.5 for total of x1.5. Cutting was unaffected iirc.

The height difference rules confuse me. Wouldnt being taller make it easier to be stabbed in the legs? Have you done a video explaining this yet?
@devourlordasmodeus Жыл бұрын
The soldiers did get a bonus to hit the giant. The +2 they got from his size completely negated the -2 from targeting his legs, so I guess hitting a giants legs is as easy as hitting a notmal man's torso, makes sense to me.

YT is in a mood again. I'll try writing my comment again tomorrow or something. Edit: Nevermind, it came through for some reason. In that case, I'll just ask about new years. Are you allowed to have firecrackers and the like still? Cause in Germany it's not allowed to dispel evil spirits with loud noises anymore, unfortunate. Maybe I'll just play really loudly on my saxophone... it works on dispelling pets at least...

Doesn't blocking send the swordsman flying backwards 1 yard for every 5 or 10 points of crushing damage iirc?
@dungeonsandgurps Жыл бұрын
Knockback on block only happens on a square hit, i.e. when the shield's DB made the difference between a hit and a miss.

360 pounds light encumbrance for Mr Giant? Ohh I wonder how it woulda went if the giant had charged one of the swordsmen to pick him up and wrench him like a wet towel and then turned him into a projectile to be thrown at his friends. I do love grappling very much, even just the basic set rules (although I houserule that one can follow a taken down foe as a free action instead of having to go standing->kneeling, after a takedown, which the taken down foe can always use to just get up again) And the swordsman behind the giant was even close to some pools. Throw the manling in the water, giant. Throw him in! Maybe he knocks his head and gets stunned/unconscious and won't be able to hold his breath (since that requires conciousness). Glub glub. ...No it's not like I'm particularily on team giant, but I do like a spectacle. Also, why am I wondering...I can just play it out for myself!
@dungeonsandgurps Жыл бұрын
Being bigger really does make grappling an attractive option. Also, since the giant's SM is 2 higher than the humans', he could also use trample. The best part is that dodge is the only option against it.

@@dungeonsandgurps Same with large area attack weapons, but I don't think the giants club qualifies for that. So badass that such a rule exists, tho. Also, I wonder if a pike should really be this good against something this large over this distance, but "size vs weapon" is simply a weak spot in the gurps combat system in general. I know that the maximum strength rule is there to try and mitigate that somewhat. (A knife has very low ST and 3x times the ST of the knife is not very much, and on big beasts like a dragon, that would probably not even penetrate natural armor, so that's a way to try and fix "How could you cut something that big with such a small weapon) But it's still janky. Perhaps grappling really would be the thing, grab the pike and just pull it away, but the imagery in my head still is off for normal attacking. Perhaps its the fault of hexes, the distance looks so big on a mat... in reality it's probably more believable to poke a giant with a long lance.
