Winnipeg is unsafe only by Canadian standards however it is still safer than most US cities. If safety was a concern you should not go to any urban area in the US. Problem is Winnipeg is the brutally cold winters. There is a massive difference in mild winter with -5 degrees weather like here in NS and -25 or lower in Winnipeg.

Honestly I am living alone in Winnipeg for 2 years and yes there are areas in downtown which I won’t go personally but I also don’t stay that far from downtown n at times I have came home late from shift it does not make me feel that unsafe but than I would say not just as male or female u should just be aware about ur surrounding no matter where ur living other than that one more point I can say is people in Winnipeg are very very nice and friendly so this city would make u feel home quickly bcos of people only reason I would live this city would be winters and public transit like commute but other than that I would differently recommend people this city .

I am currently living in winnipeg so here is my view on some these questions Firstly rent is low than he told I am currently living in a appartment 1bed 1 bath and rent is 800 and 900 with utilites But usally rent of appartments start from 1049.I think its pretty safe from what i have seen but not sure about downtown at night. Another thing that he told about cars is incorrect you can only see normal cars and lots of pickup trucks.

I study in Winnipeg and he is right stay away from downtown and don't go anywhere in night and I recommend taking course at university of Manitoba instead of u of w as U of M is in south so it's more safe, U of W is in downtown

Some positives. But Lot of struggle to find eligible job these days. it is called as murderers city. Lot of loneliness and very poor healthcare. If you are mentally strong then only come to Winnipeg.
