Considering this song bombed when first released, it is amazing how culturally popular it is today.

Yea, imagine how many more great European songs were overlooked by imperious American music moguls. This piece only got international recognition after it was featured in some Yankee movie.
@Laceykat664 жыл бұрын
@@doubleghod This one was not overlooked, it is just not popular when first released. It is like the Beatles when they first started in America. Many songs and artists have been big hits in their own country only to be unknown next door.

It was always popular in Scotland, The Proclaimers regularly had packed venues, always have done. 500 miles is a song sung just about everywhere in Scotland and still is along with Loch Lomond at the end of the night. That's been the case since the late 1980 onwards. I went to a gig in Glasgow back in 1989 where The Proclaimers sold out, and the whole crowd knew and sang 500 Miles even back then.

I love it! I use to change the words and sing this to my sweet grandbaby... I think God always was trying to tell me that one day I wouldn't get to see him much... I Always had a sadness every day, when I left him, and I kept him daily nearly til he was 3... I cherished every day with him and I still cherish the little bit of time I get to spend with him... he doesn't remember me keeping him, but he has a few videos so he knows it's true...This brings tears to my heart and memories to my old mind... bittersweet... I so wish I could've recorded every moment spent with him... I'd watch them daily...

Funny stuff.....I got a sunburn after i shaved my melon when i was about your age. Terrible!!!!! Luckily i was wearing a shirt but my face,ears,scalp??? Toasted. My entire head wasnt red it actually turned purple. Taking a shower??? Had to gently wet my head. Sleeping was another headache. Not to mention that my skin wasn't used to the sun so a migrane for 3 days. When that stage was over...my head started to peel. Flaking too. All over the place. Fun tines. Lesson learned. Keep up the good work

The Proclaimers When I wake up, well I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next you When I go out, yeah I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you If I get drunk, well I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you And if I haver up, yeah I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you But I would walk 500 miles And I would walk 500 more Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles To fall down at your door When I'm working, yes I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who's working hard for you And when the money, comes in for the work I do I'll pass almost every penny on to you When I come home (when I come home) well I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who comes back home to you And if I grow-old (when I grow-old) well I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who's growing old with you But I would walk 500 miles And I would walk 500 more Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles To fall down at your door Da da da (da da da) Da da da (da da da) Da da da dun diddle un diddle un diddle uh da Da da da (da da da) Da da da (da da da) Da da da dun diddle un diddle un diddle uh da When I'm lonely, well I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who's lonely without you And when I'm dreaming, well I know I'm gonna dream I'm gonna dream about the time when I'm with you When I go out (when I go out) well I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you And when I come home (when I come home) yes I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who comes back home with you I'm gonna be the man who's coming home with you But I would walk 500 miles And I would walk 500 more Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles To fall down at your door Da da da (da da da) Da da da (da da da) Da da da dun diddle un diddle un diddle uh da Da da da (da da da) Da da da (da da da) Da da da dun diddle un diddle un diddle uh da Da da da (da da da) Da da da (da da da) Da da da dun diddle un diddle un diddle uh da Da da da (da da da) Da da da (da da da) Da da da dun diddle un diddle un diddle uh da And I would walk 500 miles And I would walk 500 more Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles To fall down at your door

If/when Scotland votes for independence, this should be its national anthem. And this version replaces "man" with "one", so anyone can sing it as if it was them. I doubt the Reid brothers would object. Then there's the added bonus of a chorus that's independent of language. So everyone else can sing along. It's also a brilliant feel-good song. What more could you want?
