I love listening to Gus. I'm predominantly a Rugby Union guy, from Ireland but I love Origin and the NRL and always tune to listen to Gus. he really knows his stuff, being able to go into depth about U19 level and rattle off the stats about the players etc is damn impressive.

The fact they did not pick Walker who was leading the NRL in try assists all year, is enough proof the selectors need to be fired. Freddy does not get to choose the team, but if he did, he should be fired. This is why so many want Freddy fired, because they are blaming him for both the coaching and the selecting. Experience matters in the NRL, Walker has it. And he was leading in try assists. Not picking him, was a brainless move. The fact he got man of the match, is proof someone needs to be fired.

@@rogerbaker1517 I don't have to know the players better than Freddy, all I need to know is basic logic to understand that an experienced 6 who is leading the NRL in try assists should have been picked. There is only 1 time where you pick someone else, other than the leader in stats. And that is based on attributes. E.g You might want someone else because they are faster, or bigger and stronger. Queensland have big and strong wingers, and fast centers. NSW should of countered this with fast wingers and big and strong centers. I would have brought in Saab to counter the Hammer. Saab infact played against the Hammer before game two, and it was a close battle between the speedsters. As for 6, Luai has nothing over Cody, less wisdom, less talent, and less form. Buton has size and has proven himself at origin. Jack Wighton has size and has proven himself at origin. There is no excuse for picking Luai over Walker. So many good players to choose from though. It's a mess and easy to F it up. I would pick Moses at 7 again, Cleary at 6 next year. That is NSW's Lockier and Thurston. Both from rival clubs just like Thurston and Lockier were too! Moses Captain, and the clearly the prodigy at 6 would be the end of QLD. Once Cherry Evens and Hunt retires, these two would have noone to challange them.

Well in defence of stats.. they record with ball for eg... or tackles/missed tackles. Forward/2nd row has 14 hit ups, ran for 200 metres. Forward/2nd row has 12 hit ups, ran 80 metres. Ppl would think first one is the better forward compared... But the forward/2nd row that runs 50metres to b there first on kick chase, he has raced 20m for cover tackle, or has run to get a dropped ball, or there for grubber pick up. Those stats aint recorded, spoken about, not recorded though... So in THAT aspect of effort... the stats dont count.

Best is big and strong. Picking based on attributes is a smart move sometimes. Queensland have speed in the centers and fullback, to much speed for NSW to handle. I think NSW should double down in size and strength, but personally I would have went with Burton.

Safe to say Gus I’ve been a massive fan of Cam McInnes thinking he is an absolute walk into Origin how he hasn’t been picked is ridiculous. But he’s not even being considered especially now Robsons been given the nod which what’s strange. The fact they’ve talked about Robson potentially playing a Rueben Cotter type middle yet he’s never done it. But Cam McInnes plays 13 just about every week?? Which as a Blues fan kills me to say that yep we don’t get Origin QLD do it better, and how does that seem to be the case. When we have an Origin Legend and NSW all timer in Freddy calling the shots. If anyone is the one you’d think to get it we all expect him to be the guy but Billy just seems to be so many steps ahead of him it’s madness. Billy gets Origin he gets the type of player required and he just gets the building of culture and driving that Origin DNA into every player. NSW and Freddy just simply do not do it which is heartbreaking to admit.

I agree with this. NSW didn't perform in games one and two because of team and bench selections. They just weren't at the races. When you play representative football it isn't up to the coach. Origin coaches are there to be a guiding influence and to possibly get an extra few percentages out of the players. The NSW players were so mentally off it that no other coach would've made a difference.

Ultimately though, if players on the field cant get last pass right, cant catch a ball, make a lazy tackle.. that isnt the coaches fault. True, coach has to get them up ready to play... but if something goes against team... n their mentality drops, they shouldnt need to wait til half time for another pick me up from the coach. It was night and day without the Penrith boys in there, that's a selection issue, especially Luai. In saying that, fitler should stay, brandy needs to go, he's a bit of a Muppet. Fittler needs to have the help of a nrl coach, like Ivan did in the 3rd game.

I love Gus but I feel that he is trying to protect Brad Fitlers mental health and trying to be very politically correct but you can’t leave him to coach NSW. Origin has taken a toll on Freddy and unfortunately he had several obvious poor decisions per game, Freddy is a legend but Coaching Origin is not his strength. Filter would still be of value being involved with the origin camp. Still love Gus and didn’t mind Matthew Thompson he was actually engaged in the NRL conversation for this episode 😎

From Game 1 id be saying Cleary and walker at 6 with that souths hookup, would be latrell at centre murray in lock and cook at hooker just as deadly as the oenrith hookup of yeo cleary and luai. Luai and walker oth instinctive players so easy replacment for walker in form. Definately cleary and walker. Dont understand people given cleary a bad rap sheet he got 2 premierships and played well in his origin games. Him and walker deadly combo. Props to mitch moses who replaced him well.
