Phil Gould laying down hard cold facts to David Gallop regarding the Melbourne Storm NRL Rugby League Football club salary cap scandel.
Gus delivers a power message regarding the players who played for Melbourne, and the fact that no good talent was bought, it was all built from within the club.
As Gus says "When you are the best in the world, you deserve a pay rise"

I agree with both and there should be a compromise where if you debut a player you forever get that player on some sought of "salary cap discount" where say 20% of that players salary is not included in the salary cap. Also they need to add a "marque player" system where 1 or 2 players per club are completely immune from the cap.

I think what they should do with the Salary Cap is: For homegrown talent: Something like 25% of their salary is recorded in the Cap. For loyal players, only 50% is recorded on the Cap.

Im on both sides. I agree with Gould, melbourne deserve to keep the players they developed from kids - The NRL needs to bring in some sort of loyalty system for players who play however many years at one club. But i also agree with Gallop - he has a really tough job.The cap should be raised but the cap is fair - if there was no cap teams such as Cronulla,Cowboys etc wouldnt be able to compete with teams such as Melbourne,Brisbane,Roosters,Souths

You see so many players leave clubs, whether they are youngsters who cannot be kept because otherwise their clubs would go over the cap, and then go to another side who reap the rewards of all the hard work that was done by the players previous club to make the said players into the stars that they are (for example, Thurston leaving the Bulldogs, and within two years cements his place as Australias Number 7).

If the Roosters, Raiders, Tigers what ever team... did what Melbourne did they would have dominated every decade, yet had to say see ya later to many a young player who went through the best systems. Since the Storms 2nd year they have been a force although Gus Gould has a great argument, Gallop threw it in its place, it was done outside the rules.

wetherman21 21 the roosters are doing it right now. They just haven’t been caught yet and their roster is proof of that. There is no way they are retaining the superstars they have and spending near on a million for players like Cronk to sell them the storm playbook all the while being under the cap. Their will be some form of independent payments or investments to the players as none of them will take chump change when they know they’re worth more. As a billionaire businessman Nick Politis knows the ins and out of business especially the financial side and I guarantee he’s exploiting multiple loopholes to throw the NRL off the scent.

Tom tonka and I bet when Cronk left for the roosters you said we’d fall out of the top 4. We finished 2nd. Then when Slater retired I bet you said the same thing again and guess what? We finished 1st. Forget finals as any team can lose at any time, we have proven that we have the best player development program in the league. We’ve taken 2 rejects from the west tigers Josh Addo-Carr and Ryan Papenhuyzen and turned them into leading superstars. Addo-Carr has the left wing position locked in for NSW for the next 5+ years and Ryan Papenhuyzen has gone from a nobody to potentially challenging James Tedesco for the NSW no.1 jersey in the next 1-2 years. So you’ve just made yourself look like an idiot with your above comments. And when Smith goes we have a wrecking ball in Brandon Smith ready to take his place and he’s already dominating out of position.

Gallup is totally bereft of any ideas! Take the emotion from the Storm (there have been 69 prior breaches of the salary cap), Gallup's (non) answer to Gould's question: "How do we stop this from happening again?" Would have brought a tear of admiration to the eye of any politician. Gallup should do the honourable thing and hand the stewardship of the game over to somebody that understands its roots and cares about its longevity and vitality.

Um, that's a dumb comment mate. If its so easy to spot a talent like GI, why didn't the other clubs do it? And not every kid with talent becomes a once in a generation superstar, Melbourne just happened to get about 4 or 5 of them through the space of a few years at Norths in the QRL.

david gallop is an easy target - gould like the rest of us could not come up with a fairer or more workable resolve so he blames gallop. its very easy to point out trash in a rubbish tip, gould does it emotively and sucks alot of folk in (it's what makes good tv). but he lacks the ability to be objective, he's a great motivator, he likes to talk and believes in what he says. gus can't see past emotion and often goes looking for it. gallop is direct, doesn't pretend and copes well under stress

I got nothing but respect for Gould. Why didn't they strip Manly's 1978 premiership that was won by qualifying by a 7 tackle in the semi? Why not strip St George's 1963 one since they had a cheating referee on their side? He did this and was surprised when fans booed him during the 2011 minor premiership presentation? Sheese. You get rid of Storm and you have no right to be called the 'national' rugby league.Fucking Gallop spent all his time saying how much bigger league was getting and how it could be the national sport soon. Now he's at wogball and he's claiming the A-League will take over after years spent downplaying soccers popularity to league. If you really believe that, then play it when it's supposed to be played in the winter, not in the summer where it has no other sports to compete with (the NBL is on life support and Cricket is not played on a regular basis). You know it'd get canned in attendances and ratings

Player Development from Juniors...Why Because they cost sweet fuck all to put on the park. Sour grapes probably because Panthers NEVER spent their Clubs riches on great Players. h ah ah ahtchu Fittler Lets not forget that great Panthers Junior, the one Gus helped go over to The Roosters...Who was that?? Gus once said the Polynesians, Maoris etc were to slow and had no ticker, would never make it in the NRL they aren't disciplined, not fit enough he said.......Fuck the Panthers have off loaded a few over the years.....and Fuck what did Gus just say about Bill Slaters Shoulder charge.....Let him off, Let him off.......No fucking Integrity at all......I mean shit it's all about Integrity isn't it!!

@TheJamesJosh I never ever said the salary cap should be removed. What I am saying is that the salary cap should do the following - just as it does in the AFL. Reward club loyalty, protect players that the club has developed and finally as I said to you before (Not that I think you actually read responses) is implement salary cap concessions for clubs out of the traditional heartland. Look at how the AFL have treated the interstate clubs in the AFL, and look at how the AFL is taking over.

Tom tonka the storm Moulder them into the players they are today. If they went to other NRL clubs they wouldn't be half the players they're today. Steve turner said the other day on fox sports how former storm players miss the culture down there. Which proves why the storm are the ultimate club. Craig Bellamy not only gets the best out of his players but recruits unwanted and discarded players and transform them into solid performing team players.

@109977207424511234705 While that may be true, it is the nature of the beast. Some clubs produce their own talent while others poach. My own club the broncos loses alot of our good juniors because of the salary cap and others come with the chequebook. Other clubs are always benefitting from our hard work. Just in the last year or 2 we lose Jake Granville, Matt Parcell, Ashley Taylor, Jayden Nikorima and others I can't think of right now. Hell if we kept Granville we probably win last year coz NQ don't have a hooker lol. Panthers, Storm and Brisbane do it best when it comes to developing players but it's a better comp that it gets spread around a bit otherwise those 3 teams just win it every year.
@tomtonka1915
@tomtonka1915 7 жыл бұрын
Which is fine, but you can't cheat to keep them like the Storm did. Broncs lose players all the time they 100% developed and would have loved to have kept(right now Ashley Taylor comes to mind). Point is it's not like they were 100% developed in Melbourne.

Well said Gus. There is not a very good breeding ground for League in Melbourne as it is an AFL dominated. So they get these kids form interstate with potential and turn them into superstars! That should be rewarded, but instead Gallop and co make it impossible to hang onto them even though you have invested years on moulding them into the best in the business! I'm a Dragons fan and we've had to let players go that we've developed from Junior level. In fact we got fined on salary cap issues because so many of our juniors had been picked for Origin or Tests so they now had a higher base level. It's not about the salary cap. The cap isn't the greatest but it does make the competition even. We don't have teams like Richmond in the AFL that gets thumped each week. The rules are put in place and Storm broke them. It's not great but it's the facts
