My favorite thing about Gustav is his lack of filter…. modern athletes are so hesitant to speak their mind… but the Norwegians don’t seem to care… they’re honest and it’s amazingly refreshing. You get REAL answers. I just love them.

Gustav is a gentleman and a beast of a competitor. It’s interesting how we keep hearing the athletes attending Kona, an IM race, referring to how much they love the PTO races. Take note IM.

Unbelievable catch-up the last 10k. I have never seen anything like that in recent years. Apart from that, I find it quite funny that the sponsors jumped on Blummenfelt so blatantly, i.e. Giant / Cadex with the prototype. And Gustav has been riding a Giant Trinity with rim brake built since around 2016. Don't get me wrong: it is a good bike! Sure, there were a few improvements on it, but mainly his own sponsors, the Giant logo was even not visible. Of course it's clear: no one needs a disc brake for Kona, there are hardly any curves anyway. However, the success of Sam Laidlow, who didn't ride a custom cockpit either, shows that some of the latest gadgets and fancy-new-stuff is not necessary, when the position on the bike is good. And may be the tactics. For all my amazement at the running legs, which may also be somewhat (!) related to the shoes, I actually find that funny. With an older bike, assuming that it was or is a good one, you have virtually no disadvantage. For the industry, of course, it's rather stupid. Hats off to Gustav! And of course a big thanks to Bob for the great interviews. There are also interviews from other people, but the depth and length of the interviews and your own expertise and background is just great. I always enjoy watching!

That us possible yes. But he will bring new talent in later years and there are to many races to distract him to be bother to go for that long. PTO money is a big draw. Back in the 80's/90's they had less races to choose from.

I am wondering with all the cross country skiers in Norway, a sport where that country is the world leader, whether there is a secret pool of genes waiting to move over to Iron Man triathlon. Cross Country skiing is aerobically one of the most challenging of all sports and has a huge element of endurance built in.
