Gustav Iden and Kristian Blummenfelt: Will they do the 2023 Ironman World Championship in Nice?

Seit der Ironman-70.3-Weltmeisterschaft 2019 in Nizza haben Gustav Iden und Kristian Blummenfelt die Triathlonszene aufgemischt wie kaum ein anderer Athlet. Unweit des Orts des damals ersten Interviews mit den beiden Norwegern haben wir sie nun in Nizza wiedergetroffen - doch es bleibt unklar, wie viele weitere Treffen es an der Côte d'Azur in diesem Jahr geben wird.
Since the 2019 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, Gustav Iden and Kristian Blummenfelt have shaken up the triathlon scene like few other athletes. Not far from the location of the then first interview with the two Norwegians, we have now met them again in Nice - but it remains unclear how many more meetings there will be on the Côte d'Azur this year.

Ich denke dass die beiden ernsthaft darüber nachdenken. Beides zusammen sind Umfänge die sie sicherlich öfter im trainingslager überschreiten. Wenn man es dann ordentlich plant und jemandem hat der die Logistik übernimmt dass man die Zeit zwischen den Rennen zum ausruhen während der Reise machen kann... Dazu kommt: was soll den sportlich schiefgehen? Das Ziel ist 2024. Finanziell wird es interessant. Müssten sie beim PTO soweit vorne sein damit das kein verlustgeschäft wird. Und wer könnte momentan im Triathlon so 'verrückt' sein sowas zu tun...

Seems like a bad idea. Other than Laidlow, none of the LC guys are much competition to them whereas the SC guys have their work cut out for them. Paris is next year.

You get about tree fiddy for winning Ironman World Champs. Why would they wreck their training cycle with long course work when the prize money is small and they are working towards Olympics? The PTO races at least pay well and they're much shorter so more in line with the type of training they will be focusing on for the next 18 months

Good. Punish IM for their stupid choices. Not having the Norwegians at IM world championships will be a huge blow to the morale of those in charge. The first Nice race will be a race to be forgotten.
