This Vegetable is Criminally Underrated! | Grow Kohlrabi in 2024
For the past four years, we have been growing kohlrabi in our zone 5 garden. Prior to that time, our family had never even tasted the vegetable, but once we had our first taste of this brassica, we knew we would have to make it a part of our garden every year.
Growing kohlrabi is not difficult to do, and it is a quick growing vegetable that the whole family can enjoy. If you have ever wondered what does kohlrabi taste like, you should know that it is similar in taste to a broccoli stem. It is one of the best tasting brassicas in my opinion, and you can prepare it in a large number of ways. (We have even made kohlrabi ice cream.)
If you are looking for a new vegetable to grow in your garden, you should try growing Kohlrabi.

Kohlrabis are my favorite thing and something I grow I ton of. Pickled, raw, cooked, however. I love it. Growing 3 different varieties this year.

Thanks for this video! I love Kohlrabi. Its the easiest to grow veggie I grow. It's hardy and stores forever! I just cut into one I harvested last October and it's still sweet and crunchy. I live in Utah zone 6/7 and have several beds growing them under plastic. I planted those in October and should be able to harvest them in February, just in time to plant my spring crop under plastic. Those will be harvested in April or May. They are great cooked or fresh!

I tried for many years to grow the regular green ones with no luck. Last year in the fall I planted the purple ones and they have been AWESOME! I am in Zone 8 TX

I'm in BC... my grandmother introduced me to Kohl rabi when I was a child. She pulled it out of the garden and cut of a slice for me right then and there! Loved it ever since. I have mostly had it raw. Recently I shredded it with carrot for a lovely coleslaw. Thank you for your hints on cooking it, I will definitely be trying all different ways this year. Incidentally, I planted some in the fall to overwinter and it looks like it survived our unusual cold snap last week... looking forward to getting some very early this spring.

Impossible to grow here in SE VA 8a or b dep on what calendar u believe, too much bug pressure. But next fall....thats when I grow brassicas. All winter. Tjey nomrally make it thru a short deep freeze w double protection. Last winter 6 cabbages, 7 collard plants, only got 2 decent broccoli but they are so sweet, I regularly harves the greens, blanch and freeze. They are great in scrambled eggs and omelets.

Oooo. Will be trying the leaves in my eggs. I dehydrate any good leaves I prune off that I don't plan to eat that day. Crumble it in soups, mashed potatoes, over pizza, etc.

My Gramma was 99 and died in 2005… She was old world Hungarian Germain..I'm currently 52.2024. Growing up she frequently made kolrahbi soup. Kindv creamed. Tasted like a solid cabbage

I love kohlrabi, but I can't get them to bulb. Possibly because cause I haven't thinned them enough. I end up just eating the leaves.

My Mom grew kohlrabi every year so I grew up loving it. I've tried a number of different types of kohlrabi but the best so far has been a hybrid called Konan. They are sweet and crunchy even through the hot summer. I've never had one get woody. Now I succession plant them so we always have kohlrabi for our use and to share with friends. I just found 3 that I had forgotten about in the fridge and they were still good. (it's Montana and mid January) They went into the stew and tasted great. I've never deliberately tried to keep them for so long but it's nice that I know it's possible.

Grew up eating them in the Ozark Mountains. I grew an entire GS of them as autumn crops this year. Ate the last of them this week! Cut before we went subzero so, they were a bit soft from being peeled in fridge but same great taste!

hi when i grow khorabi yhey always split they grow toa golf ball size perfect then as they get to a tennis ball size they always split i use irrigation water system can yoy help please thanks henry

It is the main plant I plan to grow soon. I can only grow indoors, but I managed to free up a square meter of space that I am going to see if I can get a decent crop rotation out of, other than babyleaf plants. Kholrabi seems like my best bet.

Bought some that were spiralized at store and used them as “noodles” with topped with stir fried vegetables. Cooked it about 5 minutes for noodle.
