The SUPER VOLE of Sweet Potato Harvests!

I've only been growing sweet potatoes for a couple of years and even though I have voles I haven't had any damage from them ( knock on wood ). This year I planted three different ways, plastic planter, 30 gal grow bag and raised bed. The largest potatoes came from the raised bed, the plastic planter didn't produce very well, the best harvest came from the grow bag

You might need to build something with hardware cloth at the bottom and around it like a lid.

You can raise your containers off the ground. Voles live under the ground and won't climb a table.

I’m thankful I don’t have to deal with voles, I would be so disappointed. My biggest pest is squirrels they got the majority of my peaches, nectarines and persimmons. Happy Gardening from Southern California.

I love how you stay so upbeat even though your crops are damaged considering how long it takes to grow them. I am guilty too about relocating I don't have vole problems but snails everyone says smash them but I can't 😢😢

Any harvest is a good harvest - sometimes in food and sometimes in learning opportunities. I'm sure glad we don't have voles down here (but watch for iguanas falling out of trees down south and we won't mention the snakes in the Everglades)!

Oh no , those voles have no shame putting their nest right there in the container 😔. That broke my heart when I saw them. I'd be buying some tightly woven mesh to cover the tops. The plants grow right through. On to next year Lord willing and the creek don't rise😅.

What happened to you using hardware cloth in the bottom of your beds? I thought you were going to do that this year. You always have so many of those little guys eating up your bounty.

The whole episode I am like:"Is there no way to put a mesh or something, or get an eagle or CATS!" I am not a violent person, but these Voles.... and in my case indian minors....... at least there is some. Just imagine if these sweet potatoes were just as plentiful as the potatoes. Man, sorry for the loss. At least there are some and also a few potentials for slips.

Oh no so sorry. I guess you didn’t try the voles traps this year. I had one voles and got that one None of my potatoes got eaten I’m a happy gardener though every year could be a challenge I found they like blue potatoes
