I love it when women say men need to step up and be a father to their children, but then these same women will use the system to make those fathers an every-other-weekend parent. Most fathers aren't "absent" as they like to call it because they choose to be. They are "absent" because women use the court systems to force fathers to see their kids every other weekend so they can then collect huge child support checks. But women don't allow fathers to have their children 50% of the time because they would collect less child support. So how about a commercial telling mothers and ex-wives to be better, to step up, to allow fathers to spend more time with their kids, and don't use children as bargaining chips in the courts just so they can pocket huge (tax free) child support checks from the children's father.

Thought of the day: There is no such thing as toxic masculinity but just toxic behavior. Adding the term masculine to it is to make it sound unique to males. Let's be honest here. If, for example, a Gucci ad suggested that only SOME women actually loved men for who they are and the rest were guilty of being gold diggers then you would be offended. You know what? Something like that would offend me as well. You mentioned that you are a feminist. This means that you care about the rights and welfare of yourself and other women. Are you really trying to tell me that this type of commercial would be perfectly fine with you because you know that you are not one of the gold diggers they believe are so numerous in society? The amusing thing to me is that what you just suggested was the very shaming tactic that Gillette was counting on to silence male opposition to the ad. I work in healthcare which is dominated by women 25 to 1. They undermine each other trash each other and do all those things men do to each other’s faces. Back stabbing and talking behind each other’s backs is the theme of the day. On the mental health wards the men and boys are the easiest to manage as the tension builds they fight its over. The women will spend weeks turning the other women against the person they are upset with playing kind games and destroying their reputation and anyone who befriends them. On another matter someone needs to tell Juan if you walk around looking racism under every rock. You will find it. (Not real racism just perceived racism). I work amongst many people of color and we get along like family. Not to mention many of us white folks have people of color in our families and we discovered during family tree research our family is Heinz 57 like most Americans. So being racist is counterproductive as we would just be hating on ourselves. I think Juan needs to be like the rest of us and give people a chance and get to know their background and problems before throwing a label on them based on what is scene on the surface.

The term "toxic masculinity" is itself anti-male sexism. We don't call social norms that harm women "toxic femininity", we call it sexism. By calling male sexism "toxic masculinity" you are blaming men for their own problems, further perpetuating the issue, and continuing their social isolation. Men face sexism too and they are not to blame. There is nothing masculine about abuse.

So let me know if you disagree but I think a lot of the backlash from this ad is coming from not understanding the term. “Toxic” in this case is not an adjective, it’s a modifier. So masculinity is not toxic but “toxic masculinity” is its own separate thing which is applying masculine traits such as strength, aggression, dominance, etc in situations where it’s not needed. For instance, a woman gets cat called, she ignores, then the man follows her, she ignores, then the man attacks because he’s embarrassed at this point and wants to dominate her for embarrassing him. Also, a lot of people not understanding why a razor company would do this. Western culture doesn’t have any kind of official rite to passage into manhood. When a boy first starts shaving that’s kind of a symbol of becoming a man so it’s actually pretty appropriate for a razor company to step up like that and show scenarios that they should help stop as being a real man. Is this helpful to anyone or am I missing something why so many are offended?
