@Marc Rossbridge. A lot of South Asians can grow good facial hair. I'm of Pakistani ethnicity but can naturally grow a beard that is full and thick and not patchy although I choose to keep it stubble sort of length because it looks better for me. I am a woman who worked in construction for over 20 years. While I was often stereotyped as gay, it didn’t take long for people to see that I was (and am) not. My appreciation for men grew exponentially when I worked alongside them, and the respect I earned was deserved for being a woman in a tough trade. I was harassed at times and I quickly learned how to deal with it - when to handle it myself and when to get someone involved to put a stop to it if I couldn’t. Men and women are invaluable to each other and blurring lines makes the waters muddy and people confused about how unique each gender is, losing opportunities to recognize and appreciate those characteristics.

"The best a man can get" was about the quality of their razor product relative to competing razor products. It was about the _product_ not the _customer_ . Now it has been perverted into being about the customer. They want _me_ to feel bad about myself while at the same time suggesting to others that I'm deserving of shame, and therefore it's game-off for me. Down with Gillette. I've been patted by older men at work, I was referred to as a girl for all of my twenties and well into my 30s during meetings (or even worse, 'one of our girls back in the office' while at client meetings where I'm actually the one who produced the content of the report we're having the meeting about), and have silently sat through situations where I'm described as 'looking after' a project but a man is 'taking the lead' on a similar project in a similar role. That said, in recent years I've also had a man interrupt a meeting to force the room to listen to and genuinely consider my idea, I'm now described as a 'project lead' when I am one and I haven't had to cope with someone in a position of power calling me a good girl for a long time. I do have hope for the next generation of men and women to be better than we've ever been before. It's made such a difference to my confidence and I think even my work output to be treated with respect and included in a team. I hope this is the normal for men and women in the future. I don't doubt that you've never witnessed this behaviour but I do doubt that it's never happened in any of your workplaces. It could be that you weren't picking up on what can be subtle yet still powerful, or maybe people have been doing it when you aren't around to hold them accountable. Just because you haven't personally witnessed it does not mean it's not a lived experience for many of us. I hope you can consider the possibility that our experiences have been different but they are both still true.

I grew up in a family with 3 other brothers. Fighting/yelling happens a lot and is a part of brotherhood and growing up together. At the end of the day we still love each other and would go to lengths to protect one another. Fighting with your brother(s) helps you understand your capabilities of being cruel and inflicting pain. Which in turn teaches you how to control your emotions and regulate your force when getting into an altercation. If you have ever play fought with a younger kid/toddler you will notice that most of the time they will end up kicking you in the face or slapping you way too hard because they haven't yet learned how to control that part of themselves. It takes trial and error and accidentally hitting someone too hard (in a playful capacity) to understand that your actions have consequences. Outside of playful interactions there is still an argument to be made. Sometimes two people dont get along until they knock some sense into each other. I've had best friends fight physically, get over it, and realize they really don't want to fight anymore because they know they work better together. Yes, boys will be boys. Don't lump that in with perverts and douchebags that dont treat male or females right. Shittiest ad I've seen in awhile. I'll take the Kendal jenner Pepsi ad Part 2 over this

Nothing stops people from buying the one for the opposite gender. If a guy wants a pink razor and will spend 3x more for it ok. If a girl doesn’t care if it’s pink or whatever buy the one marketed for men, it’s the same thing pretty much.

Commercialize the beauty in a hairless woman. Make shaved legs and armpits a standard (not a choice) in women’s perceived beauty. An Unshaven women is an ugly woman. Genius!” 2019 Gillette: “We need to increase sales to our razors. We still don’t think women are using our product near enough. Let’s ride a campaign on toxic masculinity and show women that we are on their side. Therefore, increasing the female sales quota over all other shaving companies. 3:47 "goin full Texas". As a Texan I applaud and approve. As far as your office environment question about does this actually happen I have worked and still sort of work in a corporate style environment and trust me it doesn't happen. Even in Texas. The ad is ridiculous. If it EVER happens out there in the verse it is rare. Nobody wants to be fired or sued so people tend to walk on egg shells when it comes to this issue. Also Southern Women are strong and do not get intimidated so easily. Sad that so many people at Gillette signed off on this ad.

I, like I’d think most men, am not angry at the add but rather just feel like it’s a slap in the face to being a man in general What I do tend to get more angry at is the way that as a man I am treated for disagreeing with the ad You say I disagree because it mixes up good behaviours men need to succeed in life and says they lead to being violent or rape or whatever else And you’re hit with being told you must be a rapist or a sexist or misogynist The ad currently has more than 1.2 million down votes that’s a hell of a lot of people that don’t like it most of whom are regular guys that don’t rape or abuse or anything but dislike the fact that being a man is portrayed in such a negative way

@CLureCo "The majority of ppl who have a problem with this are either mislead, or have some internal issues, like self esteem." (You mean men can't show their feelings about something?! Or is it only when they agree with your point of view on 'toxic masculinity'?) No, it is people who do not like double standards. It is obviously not a 'normal' advert. You would never see a commercial doing the same thing to women and that is a very important context to consider. It is therefore sexist against men and intentionally so. Can you imagine a commercial with lots of negativity about women and then saying... "Women, stop supporting other women who hit or shout at their children!" "Women, stop tell other women that using children as a weapon in divorce is wrong!" "Women, stop supporting women who make false accusations against men!" "Women, stop supporting women who go after men for their money!" BTW. Women can stop all those bad women who do what women stereotypically do. I think they should. Don't you? ????

Damn, that amount of stupid/arrogant response this dude Benjamin Ritchie has gotten just show the one-sided views of males Gillette and there target audience are. Either you get called a beta for dislike the commercial or told to deal with it like a MAN. They only tell mens to act like mens when it benefits them. And as soon as a man attacks back they get scared that they cant control the man anymore. The moral of the story is that, man can only act like men when is pleases them. Now Victoria Secret should make a commercial on Toxic females. And let's see how the females will react. Heck, feminists will get a blood clog when they see it and that it's an attack on females. Hypocrisy is too much from one side.

@@ashleysam1971 what if we made a commercial portraying women as toxic? With false rape accusations, physically assaulting their significant other and calling the cops to get him arrested, objectifying men, being manipulative. We then would call women to be better than this. You may respond to the implication that women tend to be like this with at least a little outrage, and it would indeed be outrageous.

As a woman, I think your assessment was quite fair and interesting. I liked hearing what a typical guy might think of it. The thing you said about “toxic femininity” hit the nail on the head. There are jerky men and women out there and all of us make mistakes. I believe men are feeling a bit picked on when an ad like this is so pushy. Granted women are the gender that has been unfairly treated in general for a long time, however that doesn’t mean all men treat women that way. And the entire male gender should not be lumped together as though they do this. There are plenty of good men out there. My husband is a good man and I believe we are raising 4 good young men. The past and present wrongs need to be addressed and corrected, but we need to be careful to not create new mistakes in stereotyping men or letting women off the hook for bad behavior. Equality needs to be maintained.

Yeah what our crass friend above us is trying to say is that, a little bit like how the advert is saying that the bad behaviour of men needs to be confronted, so does the bad behaviour of women. Much like what you said, people mostly give women a free pass and excuse the worst excesses of their bad behaviours. Thus men need to be reminded that they *can* stand their ground and say "no, this is unacceptable and I'm calling you out on your BS".
@DavidReynolds-kr6yh5 жыл бұрын
Dinah Provenzano, actually women haven’t been treated bad in a long time, that’s the part of your statement that I disagree with. In fact women get way more privilege in modern western society, and it’s men that have been picked on continuously in the media and advertising. Men are depicted as the clowns and women as the sensible creatures in almost every commercial shown on tv and at theatres, it’s an affront to all men.
