Great Track!! Pattern 1: D# Phrygian, pattern 2: B Ionian (the major scale), pattern 3: F# Mixolydian. Thank you for plugging in those plot charts. Someday I might be able to seamlessly move horizontally, but for now, it's "position by position" :-)

You can also fit Bb diminished and E lydian

I tend to work from the most used modes then relate other modes to them. The most used modes imo are major minor mixolydian and dorian. So when I play Lydian I am working from C# Dorian over an E tonality. For me the modes relate back to either Major or Minor. Mixolydian for me is just Dorian with a major 3rd. I almost never play Phrygian or Locrian.

Yeah, great backing track, thanks so much. E lydian is relative to B Major scale, because B major have an A#

That constant augmented fourth makes it difficult to make your solo feel at rest. I find that only the major third or fifth lands nicely. Using that augmented forth however harmonizes beautifully but it won't land. Also, the E blues scale in between some times gives a nice effect as well. And if you end your lick on an E, you can reinforce that one by playing your 6th string open. That really dips that note into the bass section.

This is true lydian sometimes easily confused with mixolydian. Got a dead/phish feel. 10/10 good job!

I just play the B Major scale over this...that makes it E Lydian ( it is also G# Minor). Nice track!

Can anyone tell me what Vai and/or Govan track this is meant to emulate? I'd love to compare my personal idioms with those of the masters.

E lydian has same note as B major scale. But tonal center is E right , so I should go away from E and come back to it in my melodic solo ?

You would be correct that in B Major the 5th note would be F#. However, this is not F# Mixolydian as accented note is the E (4th note of B Major and the 4th mode is Lydian). There is always a sense of the E note in this piece of music, some places a pedal tone. Which creates the "sonic wall-paper" as Guthrie would say. The E note in B Major implies the Lydian sound. If you were to play the Mixolydian scale (5th inversion of what most people know as the C-Major scale) at F# it would still be Lydian. For it to be mixolydian in B Major the chords would need to be based around a F# to create that sound
