String resonance is affected by the materials to which they are anchored, as is true with pickup performance. Case in point, I have a solid swamp ash tele and a mahogany thinline tele. Both have the same pickups (Dimarzio Area T Noiseless, for those who care) and the same circuitry, same setup, etc. They sound radically different. Put both through a spectral frequency analyzer and you can visualize the difference in wave patterns and EQ. Of course, once you crank of the gain and add effects, most modern player's tone will be far less distinguishable when swapping guitars. I'll add to this that these differentiations matter mostly to the player, but not at all to the audience.

@Scias12 жыл бұрын
@GreenDistantStar Different woods have different hardness and reflect different tones. I mean literally reflect those tones, back onto the strings. You are obviously aware that the acoustics are not directly detected by pickups, but the type of wood will reflect different frequencies back onto the string and hence through the pickup. Those vibrations travel better through solids than through air so they get back to the string easily.

@giuseppemare Roasted maple is when they stick it in a vacuum oven for a couple days at a moderately high temperature and in a near-vacuum. It apparently alters the cell structure in the wood and reforms it to be more stable. Also gets a nice caramel color to it.

@rlevitta2 жыл бұрын
Torrefied maple (what he calls roasted) is used in lots of woodworking applications where stability is a consideration. It's very interesting stuff. It's putting wood in an oven where it would burn if there was any oxygen - but there isn't - so it doesn't.

@giuseppemare No they actually roast the wood in an oven, probably something like a pizza style oven or possibly something a little bigger. It pulls just that last bit of moisture out of the wood basically just making it harder, It is just a maple neck that they treated to make it tougher.
