I've heard by so many others speak about how lucky we have been to live in the time of E.V.H. and yes we were but Guthrie truly is the Nikola Tesla of music and he is also a true poet at his art and I truly believe the world is better for it i'm always pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns his musical journies take us on and were they end up and to top it off he is a Master teacher and still student of the art !!! I heard him once speak about being a writer or a musician and life took him into this directions but I would honestly disagree with that because in my book he is a superb writer ! / Story teller !

Most people don't realize that to make it to the level EVH did was beaches was not only extremely good but knew how to write music that would sell to the general public, very catchey sounding stuff with the technical in it also, this guy may be considered even better than EVH but only to other musicians and that's because he's mostly technical which to the general public is quite boring they can't really grasp it so even though this guy has quite the notoriety he will never reach the level of fame that EVH did, I know many will get upset and tell me I don't know what I'm talking about but deep down inside they know it's true, commercial sells that's just the way it is, I've heard so many say EVH wrote the soundtrack of their lives and for them he actually did although this music is technically very good it's never going to even reach the highest of Van Halen's least popular song.

@@Finn-fq6dt I´ve pretty much single-handedly listened to only guitar based music for the last 5 years, and I´ve played for 7 years myself. I´m familiar with the greats. Holdsworth, Gambale, Timmons, Friedman so on. Guthrie´s imrpovising though, is firmly on another level, melodically, harmonically and technically.
@Finn-fq6dt8 ай бұрын
You couldn’t be more off base and Guthrie would tell you that himself. Listen to flat tire or any of Allan’s live shows. He sounds like he’s got different notes than everybody including Guthrie. Guthrie lines are milk toast and easy to understand what’s going on compared to Allan’s alien vocabulary. Allan is on a whole different level Guthrie would tell that you much
@jonathangroholdt8 ай бұрын
@@Finn-fq6dt I do agree that Allan certainly has some exotic alien-like lines that are unlike anything else. City nights would be a good example of that. Allan is obviously a fantastic player. I've seen a lot of Allan's live shows, I've been to many of Guthries shows. Guthrie is a technically better improvising player. I guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. Why do we all have to pretend that this sounds good? Count me out, there's no feeling or musicality and the guitar tone is thin and horrible as it nearly always is. I liken it to some types of modern art or fashion that become "great" only because people pretentiously decide to believe that and they create their own exclusive deluded club.

Every single note played here has its place and definitely not forgettable. This what makes him unique in fast paced playing. He plays an entire 1.30 min long slow part in the solo at the beginning of his lead part, every single note emphasised! And when the moment is right bpm goes up, just like humans, sometimes you talk slowly sometimes you talk fast when you get excited. When they told Mozart ‘too many notes’ he went Mozart: ‘ no there as many as needed’. I recommend you to watch other video of him playing an eastern melody.
@cliveshalice84908 ай бұрын
@@Pamapamapop I've been watching him for years, he's a supreme talent there's no question. Every solo he does, aside from perhaps the music he interprets for others has a part that includes some ridiculously fast run of the sort he always throws in. If you watch other renowned 'great' players they all mix their solos up. In some cases there's no solo at all, or it's just a part to embellish the music that doesn't require flourish. Guthrie is without doubt one of the best technicians playing today, but he's predictable in the sense of knowing at some point in the song there will be a run that includes hundreds of notes that you can barely decipher and that makes him frustrating to listen to for me personally.
