Guthrie Trapp | Truetone Lounge | Part Two

Guthrie Trapp is one of the finest guitarists in Nashville, TN, a town known for its amazing musicians. In Part 2 our Truetone Lounge interview, we learn about his Country Guitar ArtistWorks lesson series, and how his students all over the world are able to share their videos with him, and get personalized help with their playing. We also dive head first into gear talk, with Trapp sharing some of his tone concepts. These concepts include how he dials in his amps, and how he uses pedals to enhance an already great sounding amp tone. Guthrie also showcases 3 of his favorite instruments, a 1969 Gibson ES-335, Russ Pahl Jr Tele-style, and his Danocaster Double-Cut Strat-style.

Guthrie has a teacher’s heart. So open with sharing information in an honest and helpful way without being a know-it-all. Even when he knows it all! His ArtistWorks lessons are so encouraging, non-intimidating and effective. I wish I’d pulled the trigger on the 12-month program when I first heard about it.

Thanks again Zac. Your presentations are invariably top shelf. I came across Guthrie a few months ago via a video of him and Bucovac performing live. Guthrie is now officially in my top five living guitarists of all time. I haven't felt the inspiration he provides since I discovered Danny Gatton in my late teens. Keep up the excellent work Sir!

Probably one of my favorite Truetone sessions. Obviously Guthrie is a great player but I really appreciate his blue collar approach and I mean that in a good way. I believe every player at every level will feel comfortable realizing that you do not need a ton of gear to sound great. Here Guthrie a Pros Pro gets it done with Three guitars a small pedal board and a Deluxe Reverb. What a breath of fresh air. Proof that great tone comes from your heart through your fingers. Best interview Zac, I think every amateur and young player can learn a lot here. Absolutely great

As a subscriber to GT's Artist Works course I must admit that I've never submitted a video (chicken!) but I have watched quite a few from other students and he really seems to put in the time and delivers really detailed and serious responses. Amazing player and seems like a really good guy that is really standing behind the concept and delivering on the promise. Great interview, Zac, as are all the others in this series.

Agreed! That’s one of the first things I noticed on ArtistWorks: someone submits a 90 second video and Guthrie responds with a killer 10 minute elaboration of where the student can go from there. Outstanding value!

Saw Guthrie Trapp's name when perusing the Truetone video library, so his are the first videos I've watched here - dug both parts (thanks)!! I'm surprised his green Floyd Cassista telecaster wasn't included, since he played it so much in the past (?). Just wondering..

You are welcome. The amp is stock other than a speaker change. I put a Celestion V-type in it. As was noted in the video, Guthrie's amp, a 1966 bf Princeton with a 12" speaker, stopped working right before we started filming. I believe it was a bad power tube. Zac
