Ironically, this kind of reverence only served to alienate and isolate Griffith from the rest of the Hawks. The fact that Guts didn't worship him as a god made him the only person Griffith could relate to and feel comfortable confiding in.

Judea's understanding of Griffith and his dream just hit me! Slan might've been right when she said to Griffith that even if Griffith chooses to sacrifice the hawks they will forgive him, coz they love him. And all the main members went out without even cursing his name or thinking I'll of them. Rickert was in the same place emotionally too, until later on when he grew a pair and slapped the taste outta Griffith's mouth

[This is one version of an english translated manga version of this scene, I don’t know if it’s the official translation] Judeau: You’re up early. You must really like high places, don’t you? [Judeau takes a seat then offers Guts some refreshment, as he politely declines] Judeau: so how about the band of the hawk? Guts: how? Judeau: think you’ll fit in? Guts: …I dunno. Hard to say… Judeau: [silence] Guts: ….It’s kinda weird. Mercenary bands are never much different. They’re savage, made up mostly of rogues and men with shady pasts, y’know? I was surprised by how young everyone here is. But that’s not all… here… it’s… different somehow… Judeau: Hmmmm. [short silence] I guess, maybe? Well, a little variety’s good even for mercenary bands. We’ve got escaped prisoners, street urchins, sons of blacksmiths, and even second sons of poor aristocrats in ours! Yup! But… if anything, maybe it’s Griffith? I’d say…those who’ve been completely charmed by Griffith…those who figure as long as they stick with Griffith, they’ll get to see great things. Anyway, all of us are here because of his charisma. On his own, no one of us is any big deal. No different from any other mercenary. [Guts sits in silence] It’s just that unlike other mercenaries, who are so hardened they think only about money and their own survival, we’re a little different. Around here…while we do spend every blood-filled day killing and being killed, it’s strange, but…we can also cry, laugh, get angry, whatever. [Guts silent for a moment more] Guts: Griffith…what kind of guy is he? Judeau: hn? [Judeau thinks] hmmmm. I don’t know… Guts: …yet you’re all charmed by him?… Judeau: whoa, hold on! Just listen. How can I put this? Just when you think it looks like he’s got some strange wisdom, he seems just like a kid… just when you think he has a spine-chilling look on his face, he smiles innocently like a baby. Is he a child or an adult, a good guy or a villain? I don’t really know what he is. [short silence as Guts recalls Griffith’s smile and stare] But something about him is different from us. There are things that simple mercenaries like us only hear about in absurd drinking tales, things that he would think of and do like they were nothing. I can’t really describe it… it’s not just his swordsmanship and his tactics. Ordinary people like us don’t understand Griffith… it might take him longer than a lifetime to achieve it… but I guess he must have some kind of conviction. Guts: (conviction…) In what…? Judeau: In everything. …Heh. It’s not whether he’s a good guy or a bad guy. It’s not whether we really know him or not. Isn’t that just how it is when a man gathers other men together? [there’s a final moment of silence, instead of casca, a random soldier informs Guts that Griffith calls for him. Guts gets up.] Judeau: …see ya. [Judeau calls Guts back] Judeau: Guts. [Guts turns] Judeau: I’m sure you’ll find it here. The place where you belong. [Guts takes his leave]
