Gutting the Interior on my 3rd Gen 4Runner for a Deep Clean - Oddly Satisfying

That’s real clean compared to the one I just bought. I bought one for 2 grand from a guy out in the country and there is probably 10lbs of dirt in this thing. I’m thinking about just taking and leaving the carpet out until I get replacement carpet.

I took a step further. I removed all the seat covers from all the seats and hand washed them. Cleaned all the foam cushions . Carpets were thoroughly cleaned and rinsed on stands. Left out in the sun to dry out for a week. Took all door panels, center console, dash removal, all rear panels as well as hatch panel off to clean.

@@goatsinapond previous owner had dogs, there was no other options than removing all covers.

@@brucewayne2773 I'm working on a Land Cruiser right now where the previous owner had dogs. There is hair inside pretty much every interior panel.

@@goatsinapond Where there is hair, there is that disgusting wet dog hair smell too. That is why I left the carpets and seat covers in the sun to help bleach that smell out. There is still that faint dog smell, but hopefully leaving the windows down all the time now it will eventually get better. Good luck with your project cleaning.

How did your cleaning job go? What type of smell were you trying to remove? I just bought a 2002 4Runner and it has bad cigarette smoke smell, so I’m thinking of gutting and cleaning it like this.

It went well. Thanks for asking. The truck felt a little grimy to me with really dirty fabric. The carpet was mostly clean with a kind of stale smell. Overall I'm really happy with how it turned out and makes a world of difference having a clean interior. It feels like you remove all the previous owner(s) dirt! Good luck on your cleaning!

Window cleaner? Use literally any soap

Window cleaner lifted the stains for me. I don't have an extractor to use a heavy soap and water solution. That would be the proper way to do it, but I used the tools I had available at the time. Thanks for watching.
