Beamish Open Air Museum is a great place to visit even on a cold and wintery January weekend 2025, but this is season that Beamish can carry out maintenance before peak season and visitors arrive. The trams where not operating due to track repairs in the 1900's town so extra buses where running an alternative service route through the new 1950's town, all around the huge site to all the various attractions and provided an excellent service and opportunity to ride many different vintage vehicles.
CBR 539 a Roe bodied Guy Arab III owned and preserved by the North East Bus Preservation Trust (NEBPT), was on loan to Beamish to assist with providing bus travel around the site as required.
CBR 539 was purchased new to Sunderland Corporation in 1955 and was fleeted as 139 and was a Guy Arab III chassis fitted with a Roe H33/25R bodywork. This was a batch of 12 buses that were new and bought to be used on tram replacement service in the Grangetown area.
How bizarre its still being used for tram replacement service 70 years later !
It was donated to NEBPT in 2003 by the 139 group.
We hop aboard for a ride on CBR 539 and hope you enjoy the ride.
