Well, once upon a time I built a boat....this is one of my favorite songs, ever. I lived aboard my H-55 and sailed about 50,000 miles....I've been ashore about 40 years now, but the dream never dies. Everything good in my life has flowed from that experience. -Veteran '66-68

after all these years, can never forget Guy, Townes, Nancy... all our great Texas musicians who have stepped on a rainbow...

Guy was one of a kind, a true Texas original. Despite his rough and tumble exterior, he wrote the gentlest songs you’d ever hear sometimes. One of the great American poets, and a fine singer and guitar player in his own right.

It's time for a change I'm tired of that same ol' same The same ol' words the same ol' lines The same ol' tricks and the same ol' rhymes Days precious days Roll in and out like waves I got boards to bend I got planks to nail I got charts to make I got seas to sail I'm gonna build me a boat With these two hands It'll be a fair curve From a noble plan Let the chips fall where they will 'Cause I've got boats to build Sails are just like wings The wind can make 'em sing Songs of life songs of hope Songs to keep your dreams afloat I'm gonna build me a boat With these two hands It'll be a fair curve From a noble plan Let the chips fall where they will 'Cause I've got boats to build Shores distant shores There's where I'm headed for Got the stars to guide my way Sail into the light of day I'm gonna build me a boat With these two hands It'll be a fair curve From a noble plan Let the chips fall where they will 'Cause I've got boats to build

Sent this to my uncle. He was a crop duster and later in life he liked to sail around the west coast of mexico. This is for you uncle Gerald.

Guy Clark was a true Troubadour , telling tales with a silver tongue , spreading memories like warm jam on a butter biscuit...memories that live on, even linger on long after the music stops....R.I.P. Forever Guy !!

when we lost Guy Clark and Steve Young in the same year, there became a vacuum in songwriters world that will probably never be filled.

My life is to make boats, this is a fine art. With great sacrifice and much work I learned a little and won many friends. This beautiful song moves me.

What an amazing poet and songwriter . . . I would put Guy Clark in the same class as Jim Croce, James Taylor, Glen Frye, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Carole King, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson. . just to name a few. My father grew up on the shores of Puget Sound and always loved the water. We played this song at his memorial service years ago, and to this day, everytime I see a sailboat, I think about the line, "fair curve from a noble plan. . . " Thank you Mr. Clark for so wonderfully putting simple words together.

Well said, my late husband was a boatbuilder too. Perfect song for a memorial. He’s at peace in the VA cemetery.

Anyone remember seeing Guy singing this on CMT in the 90S chipping away with a piece of wood, can i find it anyplace?
@rogerclark6605 Жыл бұрын
Yes it’s on KZbin but you need to search, starts with the curtains pulled apart and sea water, I first saw it on TV in Adelaide South Australia late 1990s on CMT in the first year or two CMT was broadcast directly from the US, but of course that never lasted and it soon it was changed to a local production and it lost its American country feel, so long ago but still great to listen to Guy singing, a great performance.
Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson did a great job on this song but Guy Clark did a helluva alot better on this song

WTF, most of the songs on this album upload are mismatched with their titles. The only exception is this, the title track. But just to make things interesting there's another track, also titled Boats to Build, that is actually another song: I Don't Love You Much Do I. Unbelievable.
