Don, thanks so much! Guy Clark is one of (if not the) best singer-songwriters in country music. Maybe right up there with Merle, but Guy just never got as big as Merle. He's really more of a poet than a singer but his songs always hit hard. Keep RN2Country!

In my opinion this is the greatest song ever written. I’m so glad you chose this video. It was the first time the song had been recorded. Guy & Susannah’s relationship was very complicated. He originally was dating her sister who died after a car crash. The two of them fell in love while grieving for her sister. When Townes Van Zandt came into their lives things became more complicated. Townes & Guy were best friends almost immediately. Townes & Susannah almost immediately fell in love with one another but neither wanted to hurt Guy. When Townes passed away Susannah went into a great depression she never came out of. Eventually she separated from Guy. When she was diagnosed with cancer though Guy would wake up every morning, get dressed, drive to her house & make her breakfast & stay with her all day. About a month after she passed Guy performed this at the Americana Honors & Award show. He was barely able to get through the song. It was a few months later that Guy passed.

At the Country Music Hall of Fame for the last couple years they had guy Clark’s guitar shop and the picture was in there. Took everything out of his shop and rebuilt it at the HOF. Super cool to see.

It's a brilliant song ,so simple yet so great , here in Denmark there is festival, where a lot of the great songwriters from Nashville are coming , and the greatest thing is that they have those writhersrounds, where they just sit and talk and play ,some of their songs , I mean people that have written songs for Ashley McBride,Cody Johnson and many more last time I heard one of the new songs that Cody Johnson is recording for the 2024 records, can't wait to hear it
