William Waad is my Great, Great Uncle (14 generations back). I always tell my friends that my "lineage" prevents me from ever wearing one of those Fawkes' masks that became all the rage. Maybe for Halloween one year.

@@mrpusser0348 Not really. Questioning was not synonymous with torture. Actually very few people were tortured. After Magna Carta torture needed the king's assent. A handful of such writs were ever issued, and in most cases it was enough to introduce the instrument of torture to the delinquent to get their confession.

They did both. They questioned and tortured him when he wouldn't give up any information. There's 2 signatures by Guy, the first before torture and second one after and the difference in the second signature is crazy. It shows how badly they treated him.

why is the final passage written on the plaque written in Hebrew...does anyone know ?

My best guess is because this is a verse from the Bible: Job 12:22, which was written in Hebrew.

"Questioning" is a very mile euphemism for being tortured on the rack. Guy Fawkes, in the words of Beefeater Billy, was the only person in English history to go to Parliament with honest and noble intentions, a clear agenda and the means to see it through. Nothing we're likely to see again any time soon.

In the words of another Yeoman Warden Fawkes was the only person in English and British history who went to parliament with honest and noble intensions, a clear agenda, a strong resolve to see it through and the means to do so. Nothing to be seen ever again. 😀
