@YuckFou0x0FFFF6 ай бұрын
Oh, we already know you don't know anything about your car. That's not the issue here. The issue is when your mechanic doesn't know how to read a book. Most shops DO NOT have skilled diagnosticians. Even the mechanic in this video is clearly confused by this problem. #1 All of the codes share a VREF circuit. #2 We have a DEAD battery. There is no point in researching codes. His first call should've been to replace the battery. Do the codes persist? Check power and grounds. Fix broken or loose connection. Done.

He dodged all the questions and she had to pay for the labor as well. After that she never seen him again. A week later, I was working at the Napa store. She ask if there was anyone that could help fix her car. She didn't want to take the car in to the shop to get it fix because she has to wait and it was her only daily driver. i've seen this before. parts changers that have no clue how to diagnose issues sees a communication code in multiple modules saying lost com with ecu/pcm and assume it means bad pcm/ecu wrong that's the systems being shut down to direct all available power to the ecu/pcm due to poor charging system performance ie bad battery or alternator or poor grounds or power connection. to start any diag here the main issue needs to be resolved and that's the battery dying constantly. scream parasitic draw most likely whatever module is failing isn't going to sleep and keeping the car awake killing the battery battery is smoked from being killed too many times and a loose ground causing voltage swings especially on the 5v reference circuits. so to start with new battery cleaning on the battery wires replace if needed as well as the major ground and power connections to body and engine . when new battery is installed start immediately with a parasitic draw test giving the car a 30 minute sit to allow it to go to sleep. repair draw till within specs. as for the rest of the codes document but don't have much faith in them go ahead and clear out everything and needs to be driven a couple of days minimum and verified the battery is staying charged as well as completing hopefully at least one drive cycle and running all monitors. now read codes if theres with an excessive amount of odd random codes it is safe to assume the ecm/pcm was swapped with as used defective or misprogrammed unit and the best course is ti reinstall the other ecm and see what pops immediately up. go through and relearns it needs clear codes and then proceed to drive again complete a cycle and check codes again. GM vehicles especially are very ground sensitive and will set all sorts of random codes due to poor grounding you may very well find that 90% of the problems here is a single or multiple bad grounds. yes the engine is a bit noisy and probable timing chain issue but that's not causing the rest of the issues

When you get a multitude of codes like that, it means the PCM is losing voltage connection, that's why it's throwing all those codes. There's a bad ground/circuit somewhere, in this case it's most likely that battery ground wire and the usual suspect for the parasitic draw is aftermarket audio, they almost never install that stuff correctly or safely. When codes like that happen start simple by figuring out what all those codes have in common, like the battery itself.

Modern cars do crazy stuff when they're not getting proper voltage. Clear the codes and see which ones come back once you have a fully charged battery. But yeah, the cam and crank sensors are likely due to that timing chain. And of course, check the grounds to the ECM, and for a bad wire/connector in the mix....but it ounds like that puppy's gonna need a timing chain job. Is that Apollo d9 from Snap On themselves? I'm wo during where and how you bought that thing.

I wouldn't even do the timing chain in it if the chain has been slapping other stuff in there basically it boils down to that engine is toast if you absolutely wants to keep that car it needs an engine I would say junket and buy a cheap sonata for 2 to 3 k try to get as close to 100,000 mi as you can and then you'll have 200,000 miles of pretty trouble free usage

I will never buy a fwd impala. These cars are cursed
@keithsutherland98004 ай бұрын
The first thing you do is clear the codes after you have read them, as a faulty battery flags so many up, ,,,, secondly you don't need to go any further reference the timing chain, you know by experience its well worn,,,

Just subscribed and I'm quickly noticing these newer cars all have catastrophic timing chain issues and they are supposed to be more reliable than timing belts 😮😮😮

Timing chains are great when oil is regularly changed. When metal heats it expands, hence the timing chain slack and the slip. Majority of the time it’s sadly the “I don’t know much about cars” crowd
@ericshackelford8725 ай бұрын
Change the oil regularly and you won't have that issue, plus don't drive the hell outta your car

Matt, do you have a merch store? I would really like to get a Here’s the Deal shirt.

Anytime a battery goes dead or is on its way out it makes your sensors not function properly.. which will obviously throw a bunch of code.. i always clear them.. then see what comes up after
@james65410010 ай бұрын
Great content! But why not fix the issue he's actually having? You should have replaced the battery and load tested the alternator. Chances are the alternator is bad from driving around with a bad battery.

I think the first “hackanic” put the wrong ECU in the car and it can’t communicate with sensors. Even though it was able to be relearned. I would install the original and relearn new batt and go from there

This guy never fix anything

How can a car still run with that many codes? That's insane. I feel sorry for the young man. Karma is coming to the guy that simply ripped him off - period. It's not right doing people like this.

My truck threw a bunch of cam and crank position codes one time and I disconnected the battery and unplugged and then replugged the harness and everything went away . Been couple years
@georgehill22110 ай бұрын
I took my truck apart and put it back together, went from 0 codes to 12. Most were communication related. My computer plug wasn't fully snug. I have 0 codes again after I plugged the computer all the way in.

Were they Current, Stored...? I would've taken a pic of all of the codes after the scan, & then tried to clear the DTC's. Restart the engine & rescan for DTC's to see what, if any remained.

He was hoping the guy would say ducking it and seek it to him dirt cheap. The last mechanic was definitely running a scam. Got paid $800 to do the job and he was gonna use half that to try it back but I’m just making an ass of myself and assuming.
@RamzaBeo9 ай бұрын
Dude said “he changed the computer” you need an ECU for that same make and model. Definitely a scam
