50 bucks is super fair for that diagnosis. And the way so many people are hurting for money these days, it makes me happy that Matt keeps his prices reasonable. It's easy to say he should charge more but alot of people don't have that additional money to pay. Great video.

For a modern computerized headache vehicle 40 was very fair for troubleshooting. That equipment makes it very quick and convenient for both you and the customer. Great jobs on both ends here! 👍
@Wheemer2 ай бұрын
Except that he charged 50. So are you trying to say he overcharged the customer by 10?
@foxisretrofitting45562 ай бұрын
@@Wheemer Not saying he overcharged at all 40 is what I would've charged if I had that type of equipment and was mobile. 50 is still very reasonable especially when most shops in my area charge a few hundred to troubleshoot. I generally don't charge much for troubleshooting if at all if someone brings the car to me- Free if you are going to get the parts for me to fix it since you'll be paying me for the labor, 20 if it's simple and you just want to know what's wrong but don't want it fixed, it can go to 40 if I have to jack up the car and crawl all around but you don't want it fixed. If it's local and I go to them 40 is fine. I've only charged over what I normally would due to a person who did me very wrong beforehand (we are talking bad relationship, bill money, all sorts of stuff) wanting me to troubleshoot their car and they were a ways out. This was like 4 years ago. No other shop around here would do it for under 250 dollars. After asking them why in the world should I consider looking at their car after they screwed me over and they told me because they were sorry, I actually knew what I was doing, and I'm that they should've listened to me in the past. I quoted them 95 dollars accounting for a normal charge, time, mileage, and a P.I.T.A fee for the situation. I figured it would've chased them off but they agreed. So I showed up and found out exactly what was wrong in less than 5 minutes, showed them how I troubleshooted it and how I was able to find it, and even gave them part numbers and told them a shortcut on how to get to it quickly and how to fix it for less than 10 dollars in parts and cleaner. (it was a leaking water pipe oring on a 2000 Civic). He thanked me and sent the money directly to my Paypal with his phone. After that he never fixed it and it sat in his apartment parkinglot then when he went to move out of the state with his girlfriend he bought a new car and then called me and asked me if I wanted the car and felt that it would be the right thing to do settle the things he did in the past. I got the car and the title in my name and then fixed it myself. He didn't want to tell me but apparently he had a "friend" try and fix it and they straight up stripped the thermostat housing bolt thread in the engine block with an impact among some other things. I was able to fix it for myself easily by retapping it and installing a stud and nut before replacing the Orings that were the original problem. Alot of patience, honesty, and tolerance goes a long way and it resulted in me receiving a car. I also feel like every job requires it's own special attention as well.

And nothing worked $1000 bucks later. Funny thing is I told them it could be a fuel issue way before. I went to another mechanic and told him it could be a fuel issue and they quoted me $800 to change the fuel pump. I said ok then it fixed the issue.

The root cause of that is a broken ground wire on front of bellhousing. like 5 wires go to that eyelet. You pull on it and if it rips out its bad. The proper fix is to cut the terminal off and put new one on. You moved the wires and its making connection. Its gonna come back. You never should have to add any wires.

I see some people saying 50$ is alot. If you're not a parts changer and know how to properly diagnosis a car you should be charging 90$ to 120$ a hr. 90% of the time the problem should be found with in the hr. Nowadays cars are advanced and it takes alot of knowledge to Diagnose properly.on the other hand if a customer paid for a proper diag, you have to be positive that's the problem. If by chance your wrong (it happens even to the best) then you have to eat the cost. We get a bad name because there's shops out there that lie
