Special thanks to Syrmor for letting me talk about this, a chance to talk about it comes very rarely for me. This topic is kinda hard to talk about because you have so many things to say but you don’t know how to. And this definitely helped me let it all out. Thanks for all the love and support from everyone and I wish you well!

Hey just reaching out if you want someone to talk to. I was diagnosed with tourettes at 4 and been living with it moderately my whole life. You're really brave for talking about it, as most people aren't able to understand so I usually avoid the topic. The part about tics being different for everybody and not just random swearing is so important for more people to know. Sorry you were bullied too and I hope you're living a much better life now

Question: how come humming, biting nails and whatnot are considered Tourettes? All of that is... Normal. Granted, not everyone will let others see them doing those things, but there's really no "disastrous impact on wellbeing" to think those deserve a diagnosis. Well, maybe having your fingers bleeding, that isn't too right. But still. Also, not having friends? That I feel 100%. My parents kept moving houses nonstop, I may have ONE friend and that's it. Lots of cousins though, the amount of bullying I got from them was legendary.

My best friend growing up has Tourette’s, luckily I was one of the ones where it didn’t matter, we would actually both end up laughing about it in the end, which I hope helped him. Thanks for sharing your story to give me another insight to my friend

It's something about these that's both therapeutic but still kinda sad hearing people had such hard times. But when they talk about things getting better, and them leaving their message behind it's really positive and uplifting part. Made me wish i met more and more interesting people in VR.

Glad I caught one this early. This dude I can say I can relate. For me its high function autism that I didn't have diagnosed until I finally went to an actual psych evaluation after I got out of college due to my mother's denial. I have similar symptons, but with memories that hit me like a freight train of me either embarrasing myself, or things that I think I did wrong that make me go into vocal spasms. My tendencies got me into a lot of fights because people saw me as the weird dude that might shoot up the school one day, or because of my last name. Worst grade for me was 8th grade, since that was when the other kids, including some who I considered my best friends since 1st grade, noticed that side of me and turned tribal, and dealing with family issues at the time. Got into my fair share of fights because of that, along with "fight to survive" being a more literal term where I come from.

Gotta admit, I’m prolly on the spectrum, undiagnosed for 30+ years, since I always had a thing about making eye contact, absolutely *not* understanding social cues, getting super overwhelmed by touches and loud sounds, and making repetitive gestures or sounds to calm down. Part of it was how my family liked to just act like problems weren’t there. Not even sure I was told when I was younger, I just remember talking with the guidance counselor an awful lot in elementary school cause I wasn’t socializing how I was supposed to. Only really clicked when I met my wife, and she was diagnosed when she was like 3-4. Her mom was told she’d be in an institution for the rest of her life by a doctor, just being diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorder (“light autism”, higher functioning than asperger’s). Which is absolute bullshit, cause she was able to go to college, hold down a job, get a house, when she was told from the get-go that she’d only ever be a barely verbal vegetable in a group home somewhere. Oh, and the relentless teasing through public school. I don’t know what was worse though. Feeling like a stranger your whole life, like something’s wrong or there’s a joke that nobody is telling you; or knowing exactly what everyone is saying you’re weird for, and fighting to overcome stigmas and stereotypes your whole life.

Whenever you were in a fight, did you enjoy it? I fight a lot and I always seem to find myself enjoying it, win or lose. I think I enjoy it more than anything else really, gaming doesn't come close, and sports can sort of mimic it if they are rough ones, but otherwise, nothing compares at all. I don't think intercourse even should be on the list, since that is more of a crude way to release my more carnal desires.

Sweet Anita has the same thing happen where people are oddly eager to say she's faking it. Which is weird, cause most disorders people are sympathetic towards, but tourettes is like the exact opposite for no reason.

i guess because its so sudden and surprising, it's "weirder" to people and less believable. it's cruel though. i have very little tics but i'm still afraid for them to occur even around my own family. they are very accepting though.

When I was in 5th grade, one of the kids in my class had tourettes. His tics were mostly these little yelp sounding noises. Nobody cared as far as I knew. Nobody made it a big deal. But a substitute teacher thought he was making fun of her and kept calling him a goat. That didn't go well with the class. I remember we were all so mad and told all the adults we could that we didn't want her to come back

I have a friend who also has had tourettes basically his entire life. He would sometimes twitch his face and make a hmm sound, especially when he was trying to focus on work. Thankfully he never really got bullied for it, people were pretty understanding. He's actually gotten a lot better at controlling his tics, they are basically unnoticeable now. It just got better as he got older.

I was diagnosed fairly early in life but it wasnt very well understood so they just threw medication at it and it turned me into a zombie and made me feel horrible. Stress would set it off and since mine was in my legs it made some general activities more difficult. Being able to now know what sets it off and being able to relatively control it helps bit takes a bit of focus.

Humanity sucks because your brain says so, the only thing that sucks is the human brain, bad and wrong doesn't really exist, just things that makes us feels satisfied and things that makes us feel in danger, plus we have this empathy thing that made most humans survive and reproduce more, but it only works with X things, so is it bad that our empathy is not the best empathy that we could ever had? Is just like the guy in the video said We are born like this and most people can't realize, and they can only try to train it at it's best after they realized My point is that i can't say you're correct with my logic because if my logic is correct that means it can't be correct making it so i can't prove you wrong because wrong doesn't exist, making you correct, thus entering a paradox where my logic gets validated and nullified by itself, and i love that so i'll leave it there Another point that i had is: why we suck but not other species? Because of this empathy of good and bad, we feel bad when someone feels bad and viceversa, but we survived for a long time just like this, so the next logical conclusion is that if we make everyone survive thanks to our empathy we will eventually: run out of resources and we'll all die, or, kill the other humans because of our empathy with a certain part of the population If we have a big enough empathy we won't kill anybody but we leave us defenseless, if the other person doesn't have enough empathy they'll kill us or hurt us, someone with empathy for us but not the other can have a urge of revenge, so if most persons have selective empathy we'll kill ourselves as a species, thus not fulfilling the purpose of surviving that made all living things be alive, is that wrong? we have 'reason' on our side, we know living beings don't care about their species continuity, they just care about surviving and reproducing, that's how their atoms are shaped, to clone copies of themselves, but we are different, we have reason that lets us kill our species just because, empathy being the only thing stopping us, the only thing besides ourselves and our wish to survive, instict they call it most of the time Tl;dr: no one can prove you wrong, not even yourself Or can you? *Vsauce music.mp3* Humans are made in a way that they think they're right just so they can survive and the species can reproduce more and more just like a virus, right and wrong are just a side effect of being human.

It's crazy while he was talking about being bullied i was "yeah i remember being bullied about having tourettes." And then he said he had tourettes. Yeah it was annoying when i was younger and the last time it was made fun of was in 8th grade. it's weird everyone said highschool was going to suck and yet i had no problems all though highschool and i wasn't hiding it well at all. til this day most of friends don't even know i have it. I kind of luck a little bit because i barely have it and my trigger is something i could understand easily. It happens when I'm excited. So i just don't really get excited about things very often. i think over time i just learned to get really happy about cool stuff instead of getting excited. Though of course sometimes it can't be helped. Like dang every zelda and smash trailer it's over basically looking like im having a mild seizure 😂

This makes me upset, when I was in elementary school there was a girl a year or two older than me who had Tourette’s and everyone treated her like an outcast, I don’t have the best memory but we were friends, she would do tap dancing and would not get her “tics” when doing this. I haven’t seen her in a very long time and I hope she’s doing well, but it just sparked that memory for me and just how fucked up kids can be, even me I’m not perfect.

I think mines either tics, autism, or ocd, or a combination of them. My school was stupid i guess but my tics were a bit.. weird, I'd do this thing where i smelled my hand constantly? And squinting my eyes really hard for some reason, and jumping over cracks, and would freak out in my head more than others, if i stepped on a crack. Like overthinking every little thing over and over again until i drive myself mad and get mentally exhausted and depressingly just disassociate completely and go to sleep because i can't handle being awake with myself. That's still a current thing.. but way worse. :( After i kept hearing about it from family and random people i stopped, and thought hey it was just a strange phase, maybe from my adhd, no, it just moved to something different, eye twitching, where i move my eyes up a lot, or have to do something a certain amount of times, like twisting a door knob or washing hands, or walking over the same spots over and over again until it feels "right" counting the times i do something a certain amount, silently of course ..Yet no one noticed, not even myself for a very long time just thinking something was off. Anyone know what this is? I didn't put everything down obviously, but its driving me insane and makes me feel really sad and bad..

I think you're awesome for sharing, user-wb4gk8ju3e. I think your story's more common than most know. It's like they say, ' Hurt people hurt People.' But I think it goes deeper than that. Others are afraid of becoming that hurt person. They'd rather sacrifice an innocent than suffer themselves. I think it also means that you have something special to offer. People from my religious persuasion call it a "calling". I also call it "genius". Something that only you can do in this world. I pray that you achieve that genius, friend. What waits at the end is well worth the effort. :)
