Took a class taught by this man. A class about melodrama in film. A very positive experience. He showed "Days of Heaven" and it left a indelible impact on me. Cheers Maddin!!

In this case the word "chaotic" is an example of _that_ word, where younger digital-native folks have given it an added contextual valence, describing unpredictable/unconventional/disorganized/provocative, but frequently endearing, personality traits and behaviours ✌

By insane coincidence, I saw Maddin's "Brand Upon the Brain!" and his Criterion pick "Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Part One" in the same day. Both I consider masterpieces.

After some advanced audio analysis, I think it must be Vigo's "L'Atalante," although it sounds like "Ladolante" (yet I admit I have never once heard a real person say the title of the film). Hopefully that's a none-too-subtle insider's hint that Criterion will be issuing said film soon.

This looks like an interesting crowd of commentees. There are at least two books with Maddin interviews in them...right now I have the films of Guy Maddin by Caelum Vatnsdal in front of me. It gets Cocteau like in some passages...wonderful. I'd like to recommend some films. Mon Oncle, The Coca Cola Kid, and The Tenth Victim. (watch this with no titles and english selected....they spoke in english)

@Coolestmovies They certainly don't and we don't even know how long this has been going on off public record!!! LOL. I totally agree though. A random, regular Criterion invite would be wonderful! I would approach it with the utmost modesty and respect for any parameters presented before entering the room.

@OhNoItsGojira A. I work in the industry and I know how much directors make from all sort of sales and licensing. No shit they don't have time to watch every movie - but when something is your FAVORITE film and you are in that industry and you don't own it.....that is pretty mind-blowing.

@net31rec So all directors are fabulously wealthy and should be expected to own all their favorite films on a DVD format? If I had the means I'd have 35mm prints like a lot of directors do. That's how your properly view films at home.

Also one more thing I'm so upset with Hollywood of all the re releases in 3D, taking ideas away from these films and speaking of that I'm not one of them but it makes me so mad that I wish I could become an independent film director probably not. But if your one of those has taken film school and has been inspired by these films I wish you all to become great film directors. But please don't take Ideas away from the most famous directors such as Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman, Masaki Kobiyashi

You know what film I would want to snatch if they alowed me? Guess! Give up! RAN! Yeah that's the one I would love to have and you know what else Criterion needs to release with the original Subtitles of how the foreigners viewed them originally. Das Boot both Directors cut and the full 293 min version Crouching, Tiger, Hidden Dragon Last but not least if there was one if only Criterion could put it on there website with the original theatrical version including every single version of
