@havardmj2 жыл бұрын
@@sufianothman207 Carpenters use hammers to pound in nails professionally. The verb "to nail" in this context means to "perform something perfectly or impressively". The substantive "nail" means "a slender usually pointed and headed fastener designed to be pounded in". The word pair sound alike, but are not synonymous (homophones). When he says he's a carpenter, he's not actually a carpenter, but is exploiting the similar sounding words "nail" and "nailed" for intended humorous effect.

Must be cool to actually hear someone do it right. I feel like it's a very subtle accent. I'm quite good with guessing accents. I've done it twice with Dutch people speaking in English, first one was like "do we know eachother 🧐" and the other was slightly psyched someone didn't assume she was German or Polish. Even though it probably doesn't, to me your accent (along with Belgians) is quite soft and clear.

I think that when attempting different accents, one of the trickiest things is to come up with something appropriate to say. Whether it's the ability to randomly banter, preconcieved topics or both, he does really well to get them so seamless. Always having "something to tell you about France", or "about Spanish people" to start, then riffing on key words or phrases that accentuate the accent or give him a good feel for it. I was pretty amazed. ^_^
