Brann was one of the first drummers I got really inspired by as a kid when I first started playing. I got the record "Blood Mountain" and it opens with a drum intro and some serious ripping on "The Wolf Is Loose". Great times, greater drummer.

Same here, i remember i was in school playing that in the jam room one day and this random guitarist came in and was like wtf man you play mastodon? we ended up becoming good friends jamming mastodon together and all other bands. good times

Hes incredible. While you have guys like Danny Carey playing enormous kits with like 70 pieces, for Brann to do what he does with such a relatively small set up is nothing short of genius
@im_in_immense_pain Жыл бұрын
The thing about danny though is that he uses EVERY part of his massive kit, which I find sets him apart from those other drummers that have a big kit but rarely ever uses every part of it
@Owlyross Жыл бұрын
@im_in_immense_pain completely agree. Danny does have a need for every single piece he uses, and is an absolute superhuman

The first i saw Mastodon was supporting Slayer on the Christ Illusion tour in Brisbane, Blood Mountain had just come out so it was mainly tracks off that and Leviathan, I'd heard off them but not really listened to them, first track Brann blew my head clean off, I couldn't believe his attack, instant fan of him and the band.

@nathandrums02 жыл бұрын
Brann is an extremely talented drummer but there is absolutely no variety in his fills. I feel like he could be on an even higher level if he switched them up. Great sounding drums and cymbals as well.
@lastditch7272 жыл бұрын
That's his thing man, the relentless blistering 16th note fills.
@nathandrums02 жыл бұрын
@@lastditch727 I know, just wish he’d go in a different direction. Every mastodon song sounds just like the other because of those fills. I’m sure it has something to do with him being the singer but I don’t know bro. I feel like he’s put himself in a box due to his lack of variety. Makes it feel stale to me after so many years.

Exactly drum noobies think he's a drum god but all his drum fills are the exact same each time. Endless rolls.

@@dcmastermindfirst9418 noobie? You are an idiot. I love how people throw insults around on yt for absolutely no reason. You don't know anything about me or my drumming. I just stated a fact, nothing less nothing more. I didn't say i like it, or i don't like. I didn't say it's good or bad. It's just his thing. Single stroke rolls, and he's found great success doing it. Why do you think it's ok to insult me over this comment? I'm interested to know.

Unfortunately this is where Mastodon peaked. I think the albums have steadily gotten worse since CtS. Brann’s drumming has gotten less creative as the albums go because his singing has taken priority and it makes me so sad bc he was my favorite drummer for a long time
@joshkeith1782 жыл бұрын
@Stephen Hughes maybe just a tad unpopular for best album but i wouldn’t dare say its bad. Its there with leviathan/the hunter for me. Amazing but i wouldn’t say #1. All opinions though!
