I find it weird this conversation on carbon even comes up with relation to these countries, you can't even compare the numbers.

In Vietnam the navy operated helicopters to pickup downed fighter pilots in the water. They were essentially running a normal mission at 106-110% max gross weight so they had enough time to search for the pilots. They were talking about how they would do the exact same thing, hop the helicopter off and use the 30-40 feet to sea level to pick up enough speed to fly. Obviously it didn't always work out...
