As my time in Guyana came to an end, I knew I had to go out with a bang. Come with me as I enjoy one last meal in Guyana and have some of the best duck curry in the country!
My guide Stacey and I would be headed to Bistro Café & Bar, which is a nice, modern restaurant known for their award-winning duck curry. Inside, they led us into the kitchen, where they immediately showed us the duck curry.

They also had snapper, chicken wings, and other dishes. They have a fusion menu, onion rings, bar food, and more. They even have wine! We started with some jerk chicken wings and their Montes Alpha 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon.
The gravy on the duck curry looked outstanding. I couldn’t wait to dig into it! The wine was really good and rich. It would pair really nicely with the rich duck curry.
The jerk chicken wings were very flavorful and had a bit of spice to them. They use their own jerk spice seasoning. I could taste the cumin in it.
Next, we jumped on the duck curry, which we ate with flaky dal puri. The meat was so tender and juicy, and it was full of flavor because it was so close to the bone. The dal puri was also really nice. The peas in it were really good. But I couldn’t get enough of the duck curry and its gravy!
I was in love with this dish! Then, I tried some of the dal with some rice and the duck curry. It was a really nice mix! And the win paired nicely with it! I couldn’t help but finish every grain of rice. Then, I made sure to lick the plate because the gravy was too good to leave!
This duck curry was easily one of my favorite dishes of the entire trip. I made sure to soak up all of the gravy with the dal puri. Then, I cleansed my palate with some coconut water.
From there, we headed to Bistro Wine & Champagne Bar at Movie Town Complex. They have an amazing ambience and have champagne bottles on the wall as you walk in!
In the kitchen, I watched them prepare us some sushi rolls and some red sangria, tuna rolls, and unagi. We also had steamed dumplings, shrimp tempura, and more. It’s international food, so it’s not traditional Guyanese!
My first roll contained shrimp and avocado and was coated in panko bread crumbs. I loved it! Next was the jalapeno roll, which was really nice, and the unagi, which was our favorite!
The dumplings came with a sweet and sour sauce. We went with the chicken dumpling first, which contained chives and had pulled chicken inside. It was nice and light.
The pork dumpling was juicier and heavier, and had some thyme flavor and was much heavier, but more flavorful. I loved it!

David, your series on Guyana was outstanding!!!! I must compliment Stacy for really putting in the effort to show you and your audience the essence of Guyana. She is truly a wonderful ambassador for anyone looking to travel to Guyana and see what the county is all about. I loved all of the local places she took you to and allowed the locals the opportunity to showcase their land while making you a part of the experience. I loved how she took the time to arrange meeting the most important people of the country and the sophisticated parts of the country to the rare and untapped parts of the beauty of the country and its people. Well shot!!!!. CONGRATS to you on finding Stacy and being so open to appreciate and experience the beauty of Guyana!!!

@@ameeliaramotar8450 You are absolutely correct, a person going fishing doesn't appeal to me nor cooking in the backyard. If you want to attract international tourists, you have to showcase where to eat and what to see and do that doesn't involve fishing. He was able to accomplish that to his million plus followers. KFC and Hard Rock Cafe are not eateries.

Likewise, I agree. Guyana also doesn't have to import food for Guyanese to have a healthy diet. We grow locally and seasonally. Except for wheat to make the rotis and wine, everything David enjoyed was grown right in Guyana and was always fresh. It was after moving to Canada that I appreciated how blessed our country is. Sure miss our fruits as well.

Im so pleased that you have visited our beautiful Guyana. Our country gets a bad rep because of violence and how poor it is but it has many wonderful people, food and amazing sights. Thank you for showcasing the positive side of Guyana. I do hope you enjoyed your stay and i hope you return to Guyana and visit other areas. Georgetown is the main hub being the capital city but there are other places in Corentyne like New Amsterdam, Rose Hall, and Skeldon that also have a rich night life and more amazing food. Hopefully if you ever revisit you can visit those parts and experience more of what Guyana has to offer.

This guy did more in Guyana than I did in a lifetime in Guyana. I'm so happy you went, enjoyed and your host was excellent. Well done. I'm also jealous. Haven't been back since 2007. Please give the name of the wine, please. Thanks.

David you're serious about Guyana was totally amazing I never knew about that country you do not hear of it that often hear in the east coast of America and the only time we will come across somebody from that country is they are a nurse or nurses Day in the local hospitals but you showed up the one the hospitality and that makes it so interesting and I want to thank you great job and I can't wait until you do Kenya cuz since I've been a little girl I always wanted to go to Kenya I used to watch that on Sunday evening there was a show about gentleman would go over to the African nations and he would stop by 10 years old people and the dress and the celebration so I miss that and I guess I'm older than dirt right now and some people's eyes but I still have my heart in Kenya and to think I got a friend from Grandma oh my God this is so good I can't travel because I'm in that PT and waiting to get a leg and I had a heart attack so I got a bunch of drunk rolling around but I am going to look at that countries to your eyes enjoy like their enjoy peace 🇺🇸☮️

Loved this episode - the food looked delicious 😋. I’m Guyanese and I say that “curried” duck looked absolutely amazing - right amount of thick gravy stuck to the meat - yummy. Wish I can have some now. David you did a great job showcasing Guyana with Stacy ❤

Hi David. It's after 6 o'clock here in Toronto and I am salivating watching you eat. Let me first say this: no more arguments about curry this or curry that, it's curry. Another thing is that Stacy said "best duck curry in South America, not in the Caribbean or the West Indies. So we will give that a rest. Now, all the food looked delicious and appetizing and yes David, in some countries you are allowed to lick the plate and your fingers. I do that at home too. It is an honor to the cook and the host because it shows that you really enjoyed the food, but you didn't suck the bones where all the flavor is.So all in all, this was a nice ending to a successful trip for you. We know that you are in Dominica now (did you get the right way to pronounce it yet?) I hope you have a great time there. Now it's on to a new series and I can't wait to see it. Good luck in Dominica. I hope you get good weather while you and Nathan are there. Stay safe and blessings as always.🙏🕊️🇹🇹🇨🇦❤️

@@linda77399 so Linda, is there any competition between Guyana and Suriname when it comes to curried food and I am saying curried food because that's our custom in Trinidad? Just kidding. Well, the series has ended so we can all end up as friends after all the arguments and disagreements about what we call it or which is better. After all, this makes for good conversation. So Linda, I wish you all the best.🕊️🇹🇹🇨🇦

@@linda77399 I know that Suriname is in South America - used to be Dutch Guyana. So is there any argument about whose duck/curried duck is better? Just kidding. The series has ended, so I hope everyone goes their separate ways with no animosity when it comes to whose food is better. Wishing you all the best for your future 🕊️🇹🇹🇨🇦

David had Duck curry in Trinidad also. So if he thinks the one he got in Guyana tasted better then do we really need a competition lol. No hate btw.

@@dorreonlord9836 I agree. No hate and let us just drop which is better than which. I find that curried food and Chinese food to be the best in the Caribbean. How about that? Agreed? So let us part company with no animosity. Wishing you a happy life and God's blessings🇹🇹🇨🇦
