The Guyanese-owned Datz Deli, which is serving up delicious mac patty sandwiches, complete with oxtail and gravy is creating quite a stir in New York. When this Guyanese family opened the business they never thought that it would become so famous and that their sales would increase overnight. They have done so well that they have opened a second location. They have been created sandwiches with mac and cheese, as well as chicken curry, goat curry and shrimp curry with the gravies. The hit came when they added the gravies from the curries and fried ripe plantains. Joshua Dat saved his money for over a few years, so his dad, who worked as a chef for many years, can have his own business. He is also helping out his mom and siblings. There are also plans to open one in Orlando, Florida, Canada, as well as Atlanta and Los Angeles, California. You can safely say that this family is living the American dream.
