Totally true (have done it myself with a Sixt Van) but it's a completely different story to go 50mph faster than 120mph! That's over 270kph vs a bit over 200kph (GPS speed, not speedo indicated).

As a lifelong van owner and all around Van Fan for their utility and cool factor (70’s), I enjoyed this. Guy’s van make all the right noises, performs incredibly and look’s awesome. I know he’s taken it in the Nuremberg ring. I know he’s ridden a bike on Pikes Peak. The logical next step would be taking the van up Pikes Peak!

I remember ordering the Silver State Classic video on VHS back in 1988. It might have actually been the second annual run of the race, but the first to be filmed. The winner of that race was not a Ferrari Testarossa (as there were a couple featured that ran--one crashed and killed the passenger and injured the driver, a husband and wife team; the crash was not caught on tape but the aftermath was), but rather a tube-framed 1969 Camaro that is still around (Big Red) and from a recent video is still street-legal as the owners have continued to register it for the street. It ran an average of 19X mph, and hit a top speed of 240 mph. I am not sure if they had speed classes at the time, or if the race was an 'open' run, but the cars featured on the video were all running open. I was 19 years old when I ordered the video, and even before 'bucket lists' became trendy, I had decided to enter this race. Now, at 50, with budgetary considerations, I have lessened this bucket list item to actually go and watch this race, lol.

I watched that VHS many times as a kid and loved it. Used to rent it from the video store regularly. If my memory serves me correct the person who survived the crash was ejected from the Ferrari.

@@lukekirkby5304 Yes, it was a husband and wife team; the wife died and the husband was thrown out of the car and survived. Now that my memory was jarred a bit, I do recall discussing this with someone waaaaaay back in the day who was connected with pro/amateur racing. From what I recall, there was a lawsuit filed by the injured man against Ferrari. The Testarossa came from the factory with VR rated tires; rated up to 150 mph, yet the Ferrari could hit near or over 180 mph. The racing organization originally banned the guy due to having only VR rated tires knowing his car could do much more, and he threatened to sue them for not letting him in, so they relented and let him race. His argument was that was the tire from Ferrari. He might have tried to sue the Silver State Classic organization, but obviously he did not shut them down.
