You would get a lot more rep doing the side quests. 500 rep per end of chains and there's like 10-15 per zone

Ima try to run down professions nice and ez that guy didn’t seem to explain it the best. You get knowledge points the first time you craft a some or from treasures knowledge points are used to enhance a part of the profession like for blacksmithing you can choose to be a weapon armor or part smith and you put points in where you want to excel in that profession (you want to craft better armor go armor smith) the higher the skill the higher the quality. The new stats for profession give bonuses you can read in the profession tab
