No you are right, I did not go hunting for the cheapest markets in all of Egypt or all of Cairo. I simply went to some shops that weren't extremely far away from me to to film and showed the prices, thankfully I was able to quickly film inside some of these grocery stores without being told to stop filming, but I did do it quickly and in a corner of the store for a reason. I think what I have shown reflects many stores prices and certainly gives a viewer who is not living in Egypt an idea of the cost of things here.

I did make a video about how to extend a while ago. Be aware that some of the process has changed though. Please give some insight about tipping? To whom and how much need to give in Egypt. Please 🙏
@Gventures7 ай бұрын
Actually that topic is very complicated, which is why I haven't made a video about it yet. Fancy hotels, tours and tour related things - they expect tips and it depends on the quality or tour or company - luxury tours expect you to tip A LOT more than a simple day tour with a normal company, etc. etc. Tipping in daily life is different as well. What specific information do you want to know about tipping?
@bodhanpanja58407 ай бұрын
I am going to visit with one travel egency. They will provide me driver and guide. Other than that nile cruise is there. My question is that what is there expectation from tourist to tip.
@Gventures7 ай бұрын
@@bodhanpanja5840 Okay, sounds like you are going to be with a tour company the entire time and not doing things on your own. You will be expected to tip for all types of things. Expected to tip your driver, tip your guide, tip the staff on the Nile cruise for things like cleaning your room etc. Most tour companies tell you what kind of tips you should be leaving or even mandatory to leave (many tour companies even collect tips before a tour). But like I said in the video, I never take tours, so I don't know what kind of tips one should be leaving for these services. A luxury tour company could be charging hundreds of dollars for a tour, and then the guide expects $30 USD or MUCH MORE! It totally depends. I have given 100-300 EGP tips to guides in the past (I only ever took 1 or 2 tours-when I had to-for the desert), but that was for a simple half day tour, and that was when the EGP was worth more money. There is no clear answer, and you will find different answers and suggestions based on the length, price and quality of the tour company.

Actually it is Turkish coffee, done Egyptian style. I've been living here for 2.5 years and made another video about the cafe culture in Egypt if you want to watch that. I've asked plenty of Egyptians about it, with the similar response as to what I say in the video. If you're Egyptian, you'll know they are extremely similar and referred to as Turkish coffee sometimes, though it's so normal here they will usually just say coffee
@menalvagor5 ай бұрын
Is Egypt still a palce where most wil take a chance with prices, when they see you're a tourist? My recent trip to Turkey I have experienced a massive difference in prices, eg Coffee. Some will ask 100 Lire, while the shop next to them might ask 50 lire.

You may have answered this but, coming from NYC in a matter of days, do they take USD at these places, or must I get EGP?

I would recommend using EGP for pretty much everything on the street or in local places. I never used USD, even when I first arrived to Egypt 2.5 years ago, and I only use my card for large "purchases" like paying for a hotel, or when I am required to, like paying for ancient sites. I recommend using the local currency, it is the most accurate way to spend.

Hell yeah, thanks KZbin recommendations! 😆 Yeah Egypt is great and definitely a place you can travel on a budget, especially if you are exploring on your own and not paying for tours or tour guides. It's a bit hectic, but a lot of fun, and definitely an adventure 😁😉😎 Thanks for watching, and welcome to the channel! ❤

Thanks for all the great videos on your channel. Friends of mine in Egypt told me that foreigners and egyptians only change money at the black market, where 1 USD equals more than 50 EGP and that the banks only change foreign currencies into EGP but not the other way round, so you cannot get EUR or Dollars for your EGP, which is really bad.

Hi Giselle, we plan to be in Cairo in mid march, I see you’re dress in jacket and scarf, should we plan on bringing long sleeve shirts and a jacket and sweatshirt. Also coming from the states how bad is the jet lag the first day? Enjoying your videos. Thanks for posting.
@Gventures8 ай бұрын
March will be much warmer than it is now, but it's hard to say for sure. It all depends on where you are in the country as well. Near the sea and also south is significantly warmer than where I am in Cairo. You can look up the average temps around the country in March, I have found google to be quite accurate about that. Bear in mind I have also acclimated to the temperatures here in Egypt because I've been living here 2 years. During the day it can still feel quite warm, especially if you're moving around a lot and exploring. Jet lag is another tough question, I think it depends on each individuals body. You could do a quick google search about it and see what they recommend. Since I travel a lot I have also written down some "hacks" to jet lag, which you can research more about on your own if you'd like: -melatonin (flight attendant friend told me about this-if you struggle to sleep at a reasonable hour when you first arrive) -doxylamine, (not diphenhydramine) regular Walmart stuff sleep aid -Time Shifter app -don’t eat after 5pm, go to bed at a “normal time”, then wake up early and eat. This should hopefully kick start your circadian rhythm to be more in sync with the new time zone -Argonne diet for jet lag. It was designed for folks in special forces who have to be alert as soon as their flight lands

I visited Egypt 7 years ago, and found it quite cheap, even though I'm not a budget traveler. Uber in Cairo was so cheap that I never bothered to use the subway. The Cairo hotel I used (Cleopatra) shows the same prices in $USD now as then. Other than poor internet, the hotel is excellent.

Thank you for this! Does conversion happen automatically with use of debit or credit cards? Should we have cash?
@Gventures8 ай бұрын
Yes conversion happens automatically when you use a card. Some places do charge an additional 3% of your bill though, and it's quite random. Also, not every place accepts cards, especially small stores, local cafes, and of course any markets, amongst a few other things. I would recommend having Egyptian pounds for things like that. If you are taking tours or tipping hotel staff, feel free to tip in USD/euros/GBP, as foreign currency has a higher value right now and most people would prefer it to EGP. Most ancient sites must be paid by card now, be aware of that as well. I made a video briefly talking about some of this, I'll leave the link in case you haven't seen it and would like to. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f52ZoY18nN6flas
