Thank you so much for making such videos and encouraging more people to come to Egypt ❤️ The classic kahk are actually the plain ones, not the ones stuffed with dates. The ones stuffed with dates are actually more famous in other Arabic countries like Saudi Arabia and they call it Maamoul. And I think the biscuits were with orange flavor that's why you tasted a hint of lemon, we also make biscuits with different flavors like chocolate, coconut, vanilla, butter and the classic ones are Nashader biscuits, they're made from ammonia. Also, Malban is made from jelly, corn starch and sugar and it tastes like jelly but has more tough texture. And yes there is malban with different flavors, but usually we stuff kahk with plain malban and some people can add rose water to it to give it some flavor. Glad you enjoyed our Eid cookies anyway, and can't wait to watch your video trying Fesekh and Renga during the spring holiday, I don't think you'd like Fesekh 🤣 but Renga (smoked herring) is so delicious 😋 try it with tahini sauce, lemon, oil and some chopped onions and peppers 👌

I am hoping to make a video about Coptic Easter soon, but I am not sure I am going to be able to complete it in time for Easter, as my Coptic friend who was planning to help me make the video has been very busy. @Gventures Hello dear 👋 Sorry I'm just responding right now. You can eat Feskh and Renga anytime here in Egypt not just during the coptic celebrations. There are many places here in Egypt that you can try Fesekh and Renga at, but honestly, it's better to buy it from a well-known shop and try it at home. There is a shop called Shahin El Faskhany. You can buy ready to eat Feskh and Renga from it. I'm not sure if they also sell Renga salad, but you can make it at home, just buy the renga from them, cut it into small pieces, add a little bit of raw tahini, lemon juice, vegetable oil and you can add chopped onions and green peppers if you want and eat it with baladi bread (our local bread) serve it with potato chips or homemade fries and a soft drink and that's the perfect meal 😋👌 Btw, El Faskhany shop is in Giza, you can search on Google and you'll find everything about it.

Gisselle, you are so good at these "Let's try these" videos!! We can all savour the experience with you!! The nearest type of cookie that I can relate to your Kahk and your Petit Fours are Viennese Whirls, which are probably more of a European treat, so I don't know if you would be familiar with them. They have a soft crumbly buttery texture, and come with a variety of fillings, like jam, chocolate, buttercream, etc. All hugely delicious!! Thanks again for another of your great videos, including your trademark motorbike ride which I love!! Your videos are always so full of atmosphere and charm, and I have to say they cheer me up considerably during these worrying times. 😀William

But I'm saving Europe for another life when I'm rich 😆Jk. But I do plan to explore Europe later on in the future. Right now I want to explore and travel adventurously and ride my motorbike anywhere I can out here. You've been coming to Egypt a long time! How has it changed over the years? Do you come here often?
@mtm4a
@mtm4a 7 ай бұрын
@@Gventures - Well Gisselle, my first trip with a friend in 1995 was on a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, and I was immediately hooked! Admittedly, you are slightly isolated in a cruise environment, but of course we stopped off at all the classic temples and sites along the way, which gave a useful flavour and appetite of times to come! At that time and in the following few years, flight and hotel prices seemed very reasonable (compared to today), and I was lucky enough on a couple of occasions to stay at quite grand hotels such as the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan (of Agatha Christie fame) and the Winter Palace Hotel in Luxor (of Howard Carter fame) at extremely competitive rates. However, since those years, these hotels have been acquired and 'drastically' upgraded by large hotel groups, and are completely unaffordable to me now, as a pensioner! But other hotels in those cities and elsewhere are still quite reasonably priced and are affordable. As far as changes over the years are concerned, I have to admit that I haven't been to Egypt since 2018, but my most recent visits were as enjoyable as in previous years, especially as I was able to meet up with my local friends in Luxor, both in the city itself and in the more rustic West Bank. In the last few years, that city has had a bit of a facelift, especially on the Corniche, in the Souks and following the re-creation of the now famous Avenue of Sphinxes between Karnak and Luxor temples. Aswan has always been a highlight for me because of its ambience and magnificent setting on the Nile. And of course Cairo is always Cairo, with its bustling streets, markets, souks, the mosques and other landmark buildings, the wonderful Egyptian Museum and of course its mayhem driving!! None of that has really changed over the years!! But anyway thank you for asking, Gisselle, I always love reminiscing about Egypt, and I hope to make another trip there before this year is out. I am not as young as I was!! 😀
@Gventures
@Gventures 7 ай бұрын
@@mtm4a Wow, yeah those hotels are very famous (and insanely expensive)! I drove by the Old Cataract every day to go to my hostel while in Aswan on my motorcycle trip across the country last year, there was always some guys in suits standing outside, I'm sure they were just staff, but they always looked like mafia to me 😆Would have been cool to stay there back in the day when it was more affordable, happy you had the chance to before they jacked up the prices! So it seems the south is your area! I've only visited briefly, just passing through really. But I absolutely love Aswan! Couldn't agree more about the atmosphere and stunning views of the Nile, it really holds fond memories for me, and I would love to go back some time. I didn't realize Luxor has changed so much in recent years, that's interesting to hear. What do you mean, re-creation of the Avenue of the Sphinxes?? Was that...completely demolished before and they reconstructed everything, is it not original?! I dunno, I didn't actually walk it, I just passed by it a little on my way out from Luxor Temple. Cairo is always Cairo 😅I love this city 😄❤I hope you can make it back this year as well! If you do, and I am not on some motorbike trip when you're here again, I hope we can meet for a coffee or something and you can regal me on stories of past visits to Egypt (and Scotland)😄

No, New Cairo is a satellite city within the metropolitan area of Cairo, but it's definitely not downtown Cairo. If traffic is good, New Cairo is about a 30 minute drive to downtown Cairo (but a lot longer, depending on traffic). I've actually never even been to New Cairo (not sure what there is to do out there, but sounds boring so I've never been). I made this video about Egypt, and at around the 10 minute mark in this video -----> kzbin.info/www/bejne/f52ZoY18nN6flas I talk about a few neighborhoods in Cairo, showing the map (including downtown), if you want to see where downtown is. Dear Madam I have seen almost all your vlogs specially in Egypt, please will you advise me that I am planning to visit Cairo in May . Which is the best area to stay either Tahrir Square or Zamalek. As I always stays in airbnb premises, because i need accommodation with kitchen. If you have knowledge of Sphinx airport please let me know how to come from airport to city centre. Thanks for your guidance.
@Gventures
@Gventures 6 ай бұрын
Thank you! I think both areas are great, it will just depend on your preference. I personally prefer downtown Cairo, but Zamalek is also very nice and isn't too far from downtown Cairo. No matter where you stay, you are going to need to take Uber or something like that to reach most places, as the city is extremely large and most places people want to visit are not walkable. Zamalek is a bit more quiet and residential, has many foreign embassies and restaurants and lots of trees. Downtown is more active, louder at night but has plenty of cafes and restaurants and is an interesting place to walk around in. Probably the airbnb's in Zamalek are going to be a bit nicer but also more expensive. You will have to check what your options are on airbnb and decide what you prefer. I made a video about things you should know for when you land in Egypt, and in a short section of that video I mention some of these things. If you want to watch that video, I'll leave the link here. At time stamp 9.53 in this video is where I talk about neighborhoods -------> kzbin.info/www/bejne/f52ZoY18nN6flas As far as the Sphinx airport, I unfortunately can't tell you much about it because I have never been to that airport yet. But I am sure you can catch Uber or a normal white taxi from the airport into the city center, there are always taxis outside of airports. Best of luck and thanks so much again for watching! 😊

No police officer has the right to interfere in preventing photography in private places and publishing it on the Internet as long as the people being photographed consent. In public places, there is no Egyptian legal text prohibiting photography of people, but it is preferable to ask their permission before publishing it on the Internet or to delete any media material if a person objects to his appearance in it. Therefore, this policeman Ignorant of the law, next time ignore anyone who tells you it is forbidden.
@Gventures
@Gventures 7 ай бұрын
Lol, I can't just ignore the police mate, I wish I could, but that would not go over well for me, it would certainly escalate the situation and lead to more police officers coming over, and then I would not be able to film anything because I would be dealing with them. Even if I did ignore the police, the shop owners are not going to let me film in their store after ignoring the police, they don't want any issues either. I know the police don't have the "right" to tell me to stop, but tell that to them 😆 There used to be a law forbidding it but they changed that in 2022, I remember when they changed it. As far as filming people and if they object to it, I do my best to avoid filming people that do not want to be on camera, if I see they are hiding their face or something as I am approaching I will turn the camera in the other direction. As you can see the woman in the shop is blurred out, that is because she told me she did not want to me on camera as I was leaving, and I told her "don't worry you won't be." But as for the police....unfortunately it is something I know I will have to continue to deal with in the future, this has happened countless times as I am out making videos, I usually just don't show it because it would be kind of pointless, and they aren't interrupting the video in such a big way as they did here, while I am actually talking to the man asking about cookies. But yeah...it is what it is 🤷‍♀️😅
