For PC gamers: - Upgrade your WiFi to 6E or 7 - Make use of WiFi tethering to your PC and Steam VR - Get Sidequest and sideload games and applications from the VR community (Doom3Quest is excellent) - Get UEVR, an app that interrupts Unreal Engine games and makes them work in VR even without official support (RoboCop and System Shock remake are excellent) - Get Virtual Desktop on Quest then play all your PC flatscreen games with a virtual big screen Do all this and you'll maximize what the device can do. On top of that you'll feel like you're kinda hacking the device, which will make it feel much more like PC gaming than console gaming.

virtual desktop especially, it seems like a gimmick since air link is free, but it changes a lot first of all it forwards more tracking data to the pc than air link, so for games that support it, you get extra tracking, secondly it seems to make better use of whatever connection you do have, and lastly the passthrough isn't good enough to use your monitors in vr, so having them inside the headset is actually very useful

I used to not care about VR for the most part. I hadn’t really tried much except for terrible phone stuff (like google cardboard), and I wasn’t against it, but I didn’t think much of it. The only reason I first tried a headset was when I was gifted a Quest 1, for Christmas. It’s far away from what the Quest 3 is now, but it was a game changer for me. I wholeheartedly agree with the fact that you’ve got to try VR properly to really get it. It flipped from disinterest to believing this is a new horizons of games that can’t be replicated through traditional means, and it’s awesome, and a huge part of that was the Quest being standalone. It can’t be undersold that it’s internal chip and ability to draw boundaries in whatever room you fit in makes it by and far the most accessible and easy to use headset on the market, and allows for even people with little room to enjoy themselves. (now i’ve got a pic and can play more intensive games and pc exclusive stuff, but the magic of just putting it on hasn’t been lost). There’s even more games out there that you haven’t tried that I think you’d probably love. The VR market is small and stagnates but it’s developed such a lovely library, and it’s awesome to see this excitement for it
@toututu29933 күн бұрын
A lot of people are the same. They don't care about VR nor have try it for real with proper games and softwares while spending time to learn how this awesome tech works, which hold potential far better than any other device before it. People are too used to useless gimmick so when they heard about VR, they think about 3d glasses, Nintendo Wii, and other gimmick but VR is like that one magic system that it can do what those can but far more and better

@aliaadels3 you may not like the fresnel lenses. It causes almost a screen door effect and is only clear in the very middle. I got a better head strap to keep it still and clear but was bad with the stock strap. I'd recommend a different strap from like Kiwi for Meta Quest 3 also. The pancake lenses of Quest 3 are much more clear but the colors won't be as black as PSVR2 and the graphics may be less, but some people just prefer a clear image. (3S has the same lenses as PSVR2. Quest 3 is heavy in front though so you'd have to remember to get another strap. I liked the latest from Kiwi again. Didn't care for Bobo strap.

I loved my Switch's portable function, although the now 7 year old battery just calls it quits when my charge is below 86%, that portable function feels like a feature to what is a home console type of experience. The games are big, and big intimidating time-sinks. The Quest platform is full of short and sweet experiences that really charm me, and has a growing library of bigger, grander adventures. I think you must have gotten your Quest 3S the same week as me! I feel my journey has been similar to yours.

One thing that interests me about Quest is that it’s untethered, and untethered to the point of you can use it outside. I adored my PSVR1, but it was not without issue. Primarily, it never felt “pick up and play” the way that any other game console has, and while it was pretty dang comfortable, extended use definitely brought on issue with fogging, and having to wear my glasses was always partially unpleasant. Playing mini-golf in my back yard? Oh hell yeah. Putting an old school arcade in my bar downstairs? Sign me tf up! I’m honestly still on the fence when it comes to getting a PS5 or Xbox X/S… there are games I want to play, but nothing that feels like a “must play” for me. GoW:R, SM2, maybe H:FW? FF7:R? I never even finished the first FF7:R lol But a VR headset with actual, inventive new games? I’m all over it! And being able to *actually* sit there and wear it while my gf does her own thing on the tv and I watch something else? Goals. The PSVR1 was so close, but never really had that level of ease where I felt comfortable wearing it while she watched TV and the cats were running around. With the augmented aspect, that solves a dozen little problems for me and makes me honestly want to try it, if not just take the plunge entirely!

Don’t forget to look into *cough* *cough* side-loading Citra VR. I will say no more.

THis sold me a lot on thr Meta quest. John from Digital foundry praises it a lot bt the mixed. r stuff was never mentioned. My biggest complaint about VR is i dont want to be shut out from the world so the mixed reality stuff looks so cool. I already have such a huge backlog and little time to play so I doubt ill buy a Vr headset anytime soon but Im a lot more open to it now. And hopefully someone besides Meta makes as good and cheap one.

I'll be honest this video is really convincing me to finally give VR a try, but the problem is I have glasses and don't know how well they'll work with this headset. Anyone else have glasses that have experience with it?

Honestly Half Life Alyx and RE4 VR are the main reason I want a VR headset.

Honestly, don't pass up on Half-Life 2 VR. It feels like the game was originally made for VR

I played those two, both are fun But to be honest my favorite games are Assassins Creed Nexus VR and Batman Arkham Shadow

I have some great friends, because I just got one of these from a couple friends of mine as a gift. I don't have a lot of games yet unfortunately, but I've had fun with the couple that I do have. I did get that Batman game too, and yeah it's surprisingly good.

If you like half-life, i ***highly*** recommend boneworks/bonelab. They are easily some of the most well crafted, fully realized experiences you can have in VR. It does pull heavy inspiration from half-life in terms of the general aesthetic and even having a crowbar as a common melee option (not the only option, but its heavily implied to be the main in art and the first level). The physics interactions are also immaculate, honestly giving the same feeling half-life 2 did to traditional games all those years back. Just an incredible pair of games, though i do recommend going with boneworks first. Its the longer of the 2 with bonelab working better as a companion title that you can play standalone on quest (though, you can play the boneworks campaign that way too via mods, which bonelab natively supports). Sorry for the ramble, i just think boneworks deserves so much more recognition for how well it utilizes VR. It's truly a AAA level experience made by a surprisingly small team.

Yes. Yes it is. Also vrchat and its endless amounts of video game copyright infringement are so amazing! Being in botw IN VR?!

Not even counting the PCVR side of things Not only you can just play your pc games while lying down in bed, you can even use mods in some games to play in VR mode or a simple 3D screen using Reshade or Vorpx, *or emulate 3 ultra wide screens because why not*

Timely! Got a quest 3 coming next week. We share a lot of similar game sensibilities Jon. I'm looking forward to trying Home Sports next week (looks like wii sports!) Also, 'Age of Joy' and the feature of having consistent pass-through retro arcade cabs per room in my house. 🔥 PPSSPPVR is also exciting with PSP games having a VR-like 'peek into the world' toy box feel. When it comes to Nintendo IP on Quest, Mario Kart 7 has a fantastic first person VR mod via Citra3DS (personally looking forward to trying Pilotwings and Kid Icarus on 3DS!). Also, check out the VRCHAT N64 worlds. OoT (3Ds) and Goldeneye maps (particularly in Pavlov where you can play multiplayer) look incredibly captivating. Golf+ also looks like Wii Tiger Woods Golf on steroids. Looking forward to trying that out too! 🔥

I forgot to mention 'carve' which was made by Giles Goddard as a spiritual successor to 1080 snowboarding on N64 which he worked on while at Nintendo.

I've actually never tried this for gaming but we have 3 of these (well not the S one, the normal Meta Quest 3) at work (for educational purposes, it's a long story) & when we set them up I realized there was a whole new world out there. 😂 But idk if I would enjoy gaming on them

As an owner of the old PSVR 1, this is exactly where I was hoping VR was going. I really want one of these someday. It's still a little crazy to me how niche this platform is in comparison to what it can do. I'm especially interested in revisiting old games like DOOM in VR, though. Thanks for sharing, Jon!
