I read Naseem Hijazi during my teen years. I can relate completely to what you are saying I agree with you on the beauty of his novels and also the deficits of his novels. however all in all I think he did a great service to the youth of Pakistan by writing these novels. If only the youth today would read his novels!! His writing also helped me advance my Urdu and gave me a sense of purpose and pride

I Endorse you Saba. I was about to write 100% Ditto Thanks for Making it easier 😊 Naseem Hijaz Sir's writing makes you Blush, Makes you Cry at the same time and makes you fall in love with his characters and makes you Wish to live in that specific Era. I felt when I started reading Qaiser O Kasra! I forgot eating & Sleeping Until I completed it and I was a totally different person after that.

Love your vlog. I grew up in Pakistan during 1948-1960 era and Nasim Hijazi was my first and foremost love; however, I considered him to be a story writer who based his stories on historical content. With the exception of “insan aur deouta “, I read almost every book during my summer vacations. I could be wrong but his book “dastan e mujahid “ was his earliest novel. Since 1961, I came to the USA as a student and live here as a Pakistani diaspora and love urdu and love Pakistan to the core. I also admired Qudratullah Shahab and his “Shahab nama” whose honesty oozed out of his book as he presented the behind the scenes politics of the early political times of Pakistan. I thought that book should be a must read book at the highest levels. Lastly, I must say that we are not sensitive enough to recognize our historical mistakes and keep making these mistakes over and over again and that is a clear sign of an emotionally compromised nation. Pakistan is lucky to have an honest leader who has the capacity to transform Pakistani tribal society into a nation. All my duas for him to succeed.

I’m a regular viewer of your thoughtful intellectual presentation. I just finished watching your journey of ‘Islamic quintet’. ( from Nasim Hijazi to Henry Kissinger) it is so amazing and interesting. Indeed it is need of hour to discover our intellectual heritage and identity. I was born and raised in Quetta Balochistan where my father was a police officer in in 50s & 60s. He was a great admirer of Gamal Abdul Naseer and Bin Billa. Since he knew Nasim Hajazi Sahib who was an editor of Urdu newspaper in Quetta & played significant role during Pakistan movement. During decades of our depression Nasim Hajazi boosted our morale to remind us about our glorious past. I must mention here that after 9/11 when west coined the idea of Islamophobia’ and targeted Islamic culture Tariq Ali produced remarkable series of books with full of intellectual upthrust under ‘Islamic Quintet’ to defend Islamic heritage and intellectual power. Earlier Palestinian writer and intellectual Edward Said produced an excellent work under ‘Orientalism’ in same direction. Before Ibne Khaldum history was merely the stories of admiration and glories of kings. He gave us new directions to write peoples history and about their behaviour. Following Ibne Khaldun’s footsteps Abu Rehan Al Baruni wrote masterpiece (Kitab Al Hind) to give a thorough knowledge about ancient India and its civilisation. I would request you to continue your great work. Looking forward to listening from you about Tariq Ali’s series of novels under Islamic Quintet dealing with Muslim societies under Muslim Spain, Ottomans Mughals and Abbasids.

I still remember that I used to separate myself from my siblings to read Naseem Hajzi's books. They were a treat to read. Beautiful Urdu, pure romance, and ver noble ideas were the chief characteristics of his novels. I think it's time for me to buy them again, as I have lost them in shiftings, too. Dr. Sahab I am wo grateful that you have started talking about books. Our journalists never even broach the idea of reading books and organizing well-informed intellectual discussions which are much more enriching than these monotonous themes of merely earning money for the sake of earning money. Thanku sooo much

My father narrates a story when he was advised by your father that instead of doing body building he should read books and that was one of the turning point of his life. Since then he has become scholar of himself, contributed a lot to my area literacy and I have kind of inherited that literature habit from my father.

Two men in Islamic history Al-Ghazali & Nizam al-Mulk in the 12th century played a huge role in steering the Muslims away from independent scientific inquiry into religiosity hence kick-starting the dark ages of Islam. They undermined scientific innovation in the Muslim world so that it could never rise again. Final blow was when Nizam al-Mulk created madrasshs known as "Nizamiyah" that focused on religious studies at the expense of independent inquiry with the objective to weaponize education and create jihadis instead of scientists and engineers.

My journey was similar to yours. From summer vacation reading to reading English novels to history. It seemed that was the favorite pass time of youth in those days. I agree with your conclusions that English language is very important for the development of the coming generations. I live in America and see the difference between the Indians and Pakistanis. Your speech in ‘Regime change’ was very constructive. IK must interact with the politicians in Pakistan and abroad to promote democracy and stability in Pakistan.

I can surely relate to all your sayings. I extensively red Nasim Hijazi during my school days. By the time I did my year ten I had read all his books you described. It left a lasting impact on my mind and till today when I am nearly 70, the impact is still on. Today, because of your talk, I have started to understand something. That is the fact that I could not make the transition from Urdu to English history books in time which you did. It was not until I was late thirties that I started to read and understand the English literature and history books. I then read many books but probably not enough. It is only now that I am also arriving to similar conclusions as you have described. Your description is excellent. And I would love and wish if I ever have an opportunity to compare notes and May be able to learn or add something.
