Robyn Wild that's not the issue though. People want to use actual money to support the game and don't want not throw money in the dark not knowing what will be given back in return. There is also a voice out there that wants at least some skins to be in-game rewards like other MMOs but that may never happen due to Anets business model. Also on top of that there has been a gradual increase of new gemstore items of the same category as previous item for whatever reason. This all has culminated in the gw2 community's grievance with this new gemstore release. With also the gaming community's recent outcry and disapproval about loot boxes, releasing something like this was a bit tone deaf on their part.

1/30 chance for the first license. Odds only increase as your wallet decrease. there are about 5 skins I want, but that will never happen unless those licenses go on sale. By the time they go on sale though, the amount of skins will likely have doubled or tripled, so getting the ones I want will be impossible . . . GG Anet . . .

Well shit, why can't they give us at least some sort of half assed protection from RNG in form of "rigged adoption" where we pay 100 more gems but we can choose to roll from lets say Jackal only skins. That way we pay 500 gems instead of 400 for each roll but have a lot bigger chance to get the skin we want. And before someone's asks why I'm giving them this strange ideas is because I know that this won't go anywhere.. just take a look at other games and developers. RNG is today's "thing" it is fucking sad though.. we live in really sad times for gaming. [with few exceptions of course]

Suan It leads down a rabbit hole many F2P Korean games were doing at least as far back as mid-2000s. They were rigging the odds of upgrade systems to be naturally dis-favorable, then selling items to alter the odds into their targeted mean. This meant if you wanted to even participate at a normal level, you'd have to make that additional investment or suffer high losses due to the odds. Then there was this one system where the odds would gradually become more dis-favorable in higher tiers, AND destroyed the item on failure. To "combat this" they also sold Protection Powder, which would prevent the items from breaking, along with an Item repair consumable to recover a broken item. I've seen multiple calculations run to find the average cost of upgrading a weapon, and the optimal methods to use at each stage... and what nearly all of them found was the use of protection powder from tier 2 and up is the most cost effective way to produce a high tier item. Because of this, every step up in tier was an exponential increase in item value, as every step up in tier increases the chance of it breaking during further upgrades. It looks like we're finally starting to see the breaking point of our acceptance of RNG..... and holy crap do we tolerate a lot.

The player response to the Halloween pack of skins was almost universally positive, and you saw people who had gotten the skins all over the place - a clear success. So naturally, ANet decided to abandon that fair distribution model for mount skins, and instead locked new ones behind a total of $120 of gambling (for now - more mounts in the future means an even higher total cost). It's a middle finger to the playerbase, at a minimum. Since it's clear these practices are only going to get worse, despite the obviously proven fact that fair practices work (see: Halloween mounts), I can no longer recommend investing your time and money into this franchise or company. They seem currently determined to prey on those with gambling tendencies. Mike O'Brien can go beg someone else to do his advertising for him.

Brian Hett You're right, as cosmetic items they aren't needed for playing. However, as someone who greatly enjoys having a wide diversity of appearances on characters, these mount skins are really cool! However, being locked behind RNG or $120 is unfair to the entire playbase this is catering to. Exclusive dyes can be purchased on the TP individually, so gambling for those can be avoided, but as you can't pick what mount skin you receive, the only way you're guaranteed the skin you want is to buy ALL of them. And the official announcement page said this bundle will only be available this week, so people who can't afford it until later are SOL.

You're missing the point - they've already shown us a fair and SUCCESSFUL method of distribution in the Halloween mounts. This is them gambling that the community will jump at the chance to themselves gamble for specific skins. Judging by the response so far, it's an absolute failure. But I'm sure some poor fools with lackluster credit card self-control will dump $120 into this pile of garbage hoping for just a few specific skins. ANet is showing they're okay with charging different people different amounts for a product (not a dedicated gambling box like the BLC, mind you - a labeled product on their store) based on a snippet of random-number-generating code, and that is a business practice that I will absolutely never support or defend.

Sorry guys but I love this game and I support arenanet gw2 content. behind the game lot of designers and developers work hard and should be paid. The best thing of this game is that not 'pay to win'. Is 'pay to pretty and support content develope' I'm happy to spend with this too.

Without a doubt, the most ridiculously overpriced items in GW2's history. I know we don't get hit with monthly fees, so I don't object to buying things from Black Lion, but the price here is far too steep, especially when you consider that most of these skins are just downright fugly. I'd be loathe to buy these for 4000 gems and even 2000 gems would make me think twice, especially as we don't get to choose the ones we want. Sadly, it appears there are plenty of people with more money than sense, as - right now - I'm seeing several of the new skins on mounts in Lion's Arch.

I guess I was lucky and got the griffon skin (Clouded Corvus) I wanted on my 3rd try (I bought 5 total certificates). But it really sucks that you can't choose. If you want a specific individual skin you could be spending shit tons and getting nothing but skins you won't ever use. Sods law some people won't get the skin they want until their very last try.

Because these skins will likely forever be locked behind this bs rng, and some of them are really cool (I personally want that starry griffon). Because they are behind the rng (and thus a massive overall price), there's no way in hell I'm ever (and I mean ever) going to get that skin unless they do provide some guaranteed way to buy it. So basically a really cool skin is gone forever and they're probably not going to release something similar because this one already exists.

You do know that for the gems to exist for Gold to Gem conversion, someone had to buy the gems right? These skins are overpriced. It costs more in Gold to Gem to buy them than it costs to buy 1/3 of the fully crafted legendaries in the game.
