Gwalior Light Railway NDM5 810 passes the longest railroad crossing in the world. EIN079460

The Gwalior Light Railway (GLR) passes in the districts Ghosipura and Rati Nagar in the Indian city of Gwalior, the state of Madhya Pradesh, probably longest railway crossing in the world. The crossing is secured with 3 barriers, which were already closed at the time of the start of the video recording, so the traffic is limited. I am in the middle of the operational crossing in Rati Nagar (east side of the road). The barrier of the Ghosipura Station Road you may see on the opposite site just below the pavilion at the electric pole. After the opening of the barrier it is easy, suddenly a wave of motor cycles will flood the street. The second barrier secures the north part of Jail Road, in the picture on the right. The southern barrier would be 500 meters further back. The train, pulled by the NDM5 locomotive 810, has just left the Ghosipura stop, enters in a right curve in the area of the road crossing and leaves it in a left curve further in the south. In a few minutes the train will reach Gwalior main station, where the passengers can transfer to long distance trains within India. After opening of the barriers you can enjoy some road traffic in India in all its variety with lots of blowing horns.
The Gwalior Light Railway, which is now integrated into the North Central Railways, is the only Indian supply line built in the 610 mm ultrasonic track. Between 1895 and 1909, on the initiative of Maharaja Madhav Roa II, a railway network of over 400 kilometers was established in the surrounding of Gwalior. The 200 kilometer long line to Sheopur Kalan is still using narrow gauge service and has a very intensive operation for such a small course. The train needs 11 hour for the whole trip. Since 1990, diesel locomotives of the IR class NDM-5 are fulfilling the operations on the line, wheel alignment B'B ', top speed 50 km / h and empty weight 22 tons. The two other lines to Shivpuri and Bhind have meanwhile been shut or replaced to broad gauge.

Bars on the windows are for safety reasons in Non-AC coaches. The poor condition is because this particular line is a neglected line whose historical significance was ignored until recently. The line soon to be fully refurbished and replaced.
