Gwen’s 10 week old Maine Coon kittens, why breeders keep kittens till they are 12 weeks old at least

In this video I do explain a bit on why breeders don't let kittens leave before 12 weeks old. I also show a bit on how I train kittens to use the cat scratching pads. And I also show how I mellow most kittens out ;).....however during most of the video my mind went blank on the kitten names...My daughter named this litter, lol and I can't remember some of their names...so when I say the middle kitten, that is Mercury...such a love :)....the black and silver boy is McGonagal "Tito", the female black silver kitten is Maggie....

They’re absolutely adorable. My favorite breed since my first one nearly 50 years ago. I always call mine my “Fluffin Muffins”. Besides being beautiful , they’re personalities are the best. If I need them, I’d never get anything done other than playing with the kittens.

Would they still be decently socialized at 8 weeks old? The breeder that I'm working with seems to let them go at 8 weeks. I asked them if they would be well socialized and if they would be litter trained and she said that they're usually in the potty training stage by then.

No, they need the extra weeks with mom and siblings, reputable breeders will not let kittens go before 12 weeks of age. Kittens typically are potty trained by 6/7 weeks old, but it has nothing to do with them being potty trained, they need the extra time with mom and siblings. They are being trained by siblings and mom on how hard to bit and play.

Thank you thank you thank you for not letting go of your kittens until after 12 weeks! In Denmark it is a criminal act if you take the kittens away before the 12th. week! I know this video is three years old but still I wanna thank you! 😻😻😻🫶

They should never leave their mom before 12 weeks, they need that extra bit of time with mom and siblings.

Isnt it the law? It is the law here for cats, always be with mother til at least 12 weeks old. (Dogs can leave the mother at 8 weeks, though it seems like it is to early to me)

No its not the law, the cat associations like TICA & CFA, require registered breeders to sign a code of ethics that state the minimum age that kittens can leave momma. However, if the kitten and momma are not ready even at that age I keep the kitten till momma starts ignoring the kittens. I don't want to have momma still crying for her babies because a furrever home wanted to get their kitten at a certain age...
