15.05.2024. today I understood this song as fully as possible. I have been listening to it occasionally pretty much since it came out but apparently until now I had no true idea of what the lyrics mean. Yesterday the person who was once my soulmate and who we both thought will be my future husband told me he is getting married in June. This song really reminds me of my ex-boyfriend. We were dating when this song first got released back in 2005. We were only teens at the time. He really loved this song and so did I. He always talked about how cool it would be if we were still cool if we ever split up everytime we heard the song. I always told him not to talk such nonsense, naively thinking we would never break up. Anyways, we ended up parting ways. Didn't see or run into each other for years. We eventually ran into each other years later as adults and it wasn't awkward or anything. We hugged each other like we were old friends from childhood and chatted for a bit. But before we parted ways, he said to me, "We're cool, right?". I smiled and replied "Always". Thinking of the Gwen song we both adored as teens.

First time I heard this song was, what? 14-15 years ago? I remember thinking it's IMPOSSIBLE to have this kind of relationship. But then I chatted with my ex last night, we talked about his 2 wonderful daughters and I said "Hi" to his wife... then this song just pops into my mind again.
