Making up Nucs With Queen Cells! Were They Successful?

In this video I take a look at the nucs that I introduced queen cells from Border Honey into. Ive never purchased queen cells before so this was a very exiting batch of nucs for me.
Making up nucs with queen cells are a much more cost effective way. Queen cells are only a fraction of the price of a mated queen so the savings can be big. Especially on scale.

It is always a great experience to come back to a hive that you have put a queen cell in and see that she has emerged, mated successfully, and is laying eggs. One of my favourite things 😀

Hey Gruff, great video but is this worth the effort? I understand why buying a high quality mated queen is a time saving for a commercial beekeeper but if you have to travel to get the cells to then prep the nuc and mate.. you may just go ahead and create a couple starter colonies in the spring and graft your own. Also if you open mate in your own apiary you do not get pure Danish genetics as it will be mainly flooded with your own drones?

Its the only way i make nuc's. Much cheaper than buying a mated queen for a nuc.
