Hello to TFBM just started watching your vids today. This is my first year keeping bees, I have lots to learn.Its good to see an old timer taking the time out to make informative videos and posting on the web for all of us newbees. You have answered a lot of questions that I had already just in the short time that I've spent watching.Thanks. Nelson

His name is Don Kuchenmeister ladies and gentlemen and he can teach you more in one day of hanging out with him than a stack of books. I picked up two, 3lb packages from Don in early April and they are doing wonderfully well.

I love this video. You are an great teacher. I have watched this 10 times and I learn something each time. Now I am raising some queens myself and hope some day I am as confident and knowledgeable as you are. I made a video about a trap out I just did and I'm going to use those bees to populate some mating nucs as a queenless hive.

Very informative! I wish I could spend a week with that guy. Do you know if he is taking frames out of a hive and putting them into a smaller hive to make them feel crowded so they will produce queen cells ?
@honeybeesinjapan
@honeybeesinjapan 12 жыл бұрын
Yes, I had a hive where the bees rejected the introduced queen. Probably due to my inability to leave the hive alone for a week. Anyway, I had a situation where one or two of the workers were laying eggs. That hive died out after about 3 months. The workers can lay eggs but they only lay drones. I knew it was laying workers when I opened the hive and saw drones everywhere. It was sad

Question. My aim is to split by queen cell transplant so i put a frame of bees in a nuke and after a week i left one queen cell ib that box. If i would want to make another hive if i put a queen cell together with a frame of brood and feed would that be sufficient. Temperatures are starting to warm up during the day here in malta

Don, you said a split for each queen and that you're only limited by your equipment. aren't you also limited by the number of bees, pollen, honey etc? like I can't put a queen in a hive with very few nurse bees, right?

you're not too old and I have horses so you couldn't possibly outdo them! lol ? Can feeding your bees make them lazy or teach them not to work?? Just curious- here in San Diego we still have flowers, lots of willow and other plants- I feed the bees anyhow- just sugar water- is that a bad thing?

so what if someone gave me a unhatched queen and like 10 bees would they be able to make a hive? im misunderstanding something i think.
@christophe5954
@christophe5954 7 жыл бұрын
No, you'd need a lot more bees, that queen will take several days to hatch and mate, then start laying, by then some of the 10 bees might already be diying from old age, plus they can't keep themselves warm at night, they have to be lots more, plus if ever she starts laying with only 10 bees looking after her (hardly likely) you'd need to provide built comb with honey and pollen and space for the eggs, the egs take 21 days to become a worker bee, (if there are enough nurses to feed them, to keep them warm, to close up the cell, by 21 days, you 10 worker bees are all dead of old age (probably). So, short answer is NO.

Unless you are talking about Drones...there are really no such thing as Stingless Honeybee's. You can acquire less hostile or Gentler Bee's! Try Italian Bee's...they are usually well mannered. Often the Behaviour of a Hive depends on the Nature of the Queen. A hostile hive can often be settled by changing it's genetic's. Try re-queening with a Mild or Gentler Queen from a good Source!
