would the queen mate again or would it be time to change to a new mated queen ?
@gwenyngruffydd3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the queen can only mate once and when she runs of of seamen she’s no good. Either re-queen or let the bees make their own

Great news that the queen has been introduced succsesfully. Adding a super on was the right move 👍🏻 Its promising rain on the weekend the bees would have eaten a little bit of the honey to make room and hopefully move it up into the supers.

Sut mae Gruff. I was given a swarm by a friend a couple of weeks ago and I'm concerned the queen is failing. Bees are now occupying 3 brood frames and I've observed the queen who is moving a little slow I feel. No sign of any brood yet. I have given them fondant to get them going as well. Any advice? Should I replace the queen? if so how? Diolch, Liam o Caernarfon.
@gwenyngruffydd3 жыл бұрын
Siwd I ti Liam, The swarm is more than likely a cast swarm with a virgin queen if there is no brood there. Best thing to feed a swarm is syrup instead of fondant. Do you have another hive nearby where you could take a frame of eggs from it to give to the swarm as a test frame? How long has the swarm been in the hive for?
@LittleJimnyUK3 жыл бұрын
@@gwenyngruffydd Swarm has been in there two weeks now. Going to check them again tomorrow (weather permitting) and see what's going on. If no queen or she's on the way out I will introduce a new one.
@LittleJimnyUK3 жыл бұрын
@@gwenyngruffydd Good news. I now have larvae and capped brood. These are on the 3rd and fourth frame in from the entrance so I'm guessing the queen wasnt keen on laying on the frames closest to the entrance? I'd also put a rapid feeder on so not sure if they had helped? they had certainly hammered it over the course of a week as these was hardly any sugar syrup left
@gwenyngruffydd3 жыл бұрын
Great news!! Feeding them can make a huge difference!! 😊💪🏻💪🏻
