David hewlett Reminds me of my first bees. A black bee swarm from my uncle in vale of Evesham. They always “boiled” … were aggressive.I got stung a lot but they produced enough honey to keep my student van on the road - just! 1966 a long way away. My current hives are so docile.

Great video and alot of help. great explanation about supers. im in my 3th year and its funny about how agressive your amm are. Only have AMM (in Ireland) and only time ive seen AMM that agressive is when the're hydrids or on the oil seed rake.

Great rules thanks, very easy to apply, especially the 2nd super rule Mine all have 1 super on in Lincolnshire and we are due to get some warm weather next week. So I will check the coverage on the super. Appreciated as always

Great stuff, thanks again, it looks like I'm a few supers short on my hives, going to put some more on tomorrow. There's no chance I can get those black bees here in urban Surrey however, I might buy some for the mother-in-law 🤣

When adding supers do people under super(directly above brood box) or over super( the top most box). I’ve always over supered but wasn’t sure if that was best
@gwenyngruffydd2 жыл бұрын
I always put the empty one on top 😊👍🏻

Another great video, based on this I’d better go back and put an additional super on all the hives we inspected yesterday!! I now I have asked this before, is it best to put new supers on top of the crown board or just on top of the top super?

Thanks Rob, This time of year always above the super for me. 😊👍🏻

Do you always use a queen excluder when supering? I’ve added supers to my hives with fresh foundation and some people advise leaving the queen excluder off for a while to encourage the bees into the super box… What do you advise Gruff? Excellent video , many thanks
@gwenyngruffydd2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Marcus, I always use a queen excluder. To get the bees to draw the foundation out faster feed them a little bit of syrup. They will draw it out perfectly.

Hi great as always can I ask a question,generally do you just add a super on top or underneath the super’s ? or does it depend.

Do you not run the risk of chilling the brood area and setting them back if we get a cold snap in the spring with so much space above them when putting on 2 supers?
@gwenyngruffydd2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. As long as the hive is big and strong they will be fine. Of course keep an eye out for extreme cold weather! That is the exemption to the rule.

Those look like really nice gloves. Where did you get them from? Can the bees sting you through them?
@gwenyngruffydd2 жыл бұрын
Hi, we sell them on our website. Their not sting proof but the bees don’t tend to sting you through them

should we still feed when they have supers on?, also wondering gruff if you could do a video on the different types of honeybee, buckfast, carnolion, ect👍👍
@gwenyngruffydd2 жыл бұрын
If they have zero stores and there is no honey flow then you have no choice but to feed. My rule is when feeding with supers on feed fondant only. They are much less likely to store it. That’s a great idea 😊👍🏻

Well i guess , if my supers got only foundation ( not been build yet ) I’ll add only one super and wait until is build up , is that correct?
@gwenyngruffydd2 жыл бұрын
If your supering with foundation only I would feed a little bit of syrup so they can draw it out quickly 😊👍🏻

Yes if it’s foundation. Only give them 2-3 litres at a time. Once drawn stop feeding.
