Hi Geoff, great review as always. As said during the visit of the distillery, the peated casks are taken from AnCnoc as they are part of the Inver House Distillers Ltd.

Nice review Geoff. You nailed it imho, its 20% more than the 12 yo here in Ontario and thats definitely punching the ceiling of what I think it's worth. I still find myself reaching for the 12 3/5 times but the Huddart is definitely unique and when I pick my spots it's satisfying. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for this review Geoff, can’t say I’ve had many peated cask finishes but it has interested me for a while, an 85 is certainly good enough for me!

Greetings from Argentina Geoff! I bought this Huddart a few weeks ago, and really liked it. As you said, kind of unique whisky. The only one I've tried quite like this one is the Scapa Glansa, also a coastal profile and matured in ex peated cask.

Nice review, have been curious about Old Pulteney for several years but it never seems to make it on my list. Not sure this sold it to me but we’ll see. Have you ever tried Tamnavulin? Decidedly NOT craft but I’ve found that I enjoy it for what it is…a nicely priced daily sipper. Wondered what your thoughts are on that distillery.

As long as it's cheap it's and enjoyable easy sipper with some character. 🥃

Hmmm. This sounds unique enough. Now you got me curious! Don't have a big experience with this line. Had the 12, the 16. Gonna give this a go probably - sells around 38-43 € in my market. Great review as always Geoff! Cheers Buddy 🥃🥃

Great review! Old Pulteney is not my cup of tea, never was. There is always a chemical note in the whisky. The Huddart is in my opinion a 79 point whisky.

Thanks for reviewing this one Geoff. Decent dram, but can't remember any peat notes. A remark on the colour description on the label: mentioning the added colour is mandatory in Germany, but f.e. not in The Netherlands. Speaking of affordable, there's new "Old Pulteney Harbour" for ~28 USD in our Tesco. 40% ABV. I'm kind of afraid, and I expect very little, but I'm still going to try it.

Its 40% especially for supermarkets so you know well what to expect. Avoid it. Add few quids and buy bwtter bottle. 😁🥂🙋♂️

Wow, psychology at work! Good review, I've had the OP12 but not this one. It goes for around $85-90 NZD, similar price to Glencadam 10. The OP12 is cheaper at around $72 although that has increased in price. When I bought my bottle about 2 years ago it was only $63. I've had the Starward Unexpeated that uses peated casks and I think it works well. But I agree that you need good casks, a skilled master distiller, and the right distillate to make it work. Cheers!

Im not 100% sure about declaration of Farbstoff. I think its only required in german law. Not in the EU. But i might be wrong about it. Maybe its also required in other countries. If seen this on bottles vor NL market as well
@Gwhisky4 ай бұрын
Yes it's not an EU-wide requirement. It's specific to a few select markets. 🥃
@kimoliver58484 ай бұрын
@@Gwhisky Sometimes it confuses distillers. they think mentioning Farbstoff is always required in Germany. Ive seen Bourbons with it on the lable. By law there is no coulorant in Bourbon xd

Hey Geoff. I don’t know why, but when you got to the specs, for some reason I expected you to say “and the color is unnatural “ 😅. On a different note, the only time I heard of something finished in peated whisky casks was when I found a bottle of El Tesoro tequila finished in Laphroaig 10 casks. It sounded very interesting, and I would’ve loved to try it, but they wanted about $130 for a bottle. Not in this lifetime!
@Gwhisky4 ай бұрын
Tequila in peated casks? That... could... work? Agree that $130 is more than I'd be willing to pay for that little experiment. 🥃

Excellent review, Geoff. I've been considering buying this bottle for a while, but just never pulled the trigger. Serge at WhiskyFun also rated it at a decent 86 a few years back in 2018 (I know, it may have changed since then). Thanks for reviewing, I'm not scared away from buying after your verdict, but on the other hand also not conviced that I will buy it. In other words... status quo. Your review didn't help at all 😉😂

Hah yeah I know the feeling. "Sounds like it could be decent. I might get around to trying it someday." 🥃

@@Gwhisky 😅Indeed, so familiar that it almost happens on a weekly basis. Have you tried the 2012 Flotilla? Bottled at 46% ABV, 10 yo age statement, fully American oak matured and it's actually 10-15% cheaper than the Huddart in my market. I just checked WhiskyFun for that one too, and Serge has actually rated it at really solid 89. I think, I might very well have a closer look at (i.e. buy) the 2012 Flotilla instead, while it's still available... could be an interesting, young Old Pulteney.
@thewhiskyenthusiast4 ай бұрын
Hey Geoff nice review! I find this one a bit harsh and young and I find the 12 underpowered so I do 2 parts Huddart 1 part 12 and it turns out great :) Cheers!

Old Pulteney is one of those "if I had known then what I know now" whiskys ... as in: I'd own 2 cases of their old 21 and 3 cases of their old 17 and would be very stationary and NOT moving on if I had known then what I know now ... alas, I didn't, so I've had to move on.
