Could I shim the nut edge of the fretboard ~1mm to get a more consistant overall thickness at the edges when the fretboard is sawed into shape? So that i can get a more even depth for fretboard binding?

We never tried that but I guess it should be no problem, maybe you want to shim 0.5mm in the middle of the fretboard as well to get it even in that area. Thank you.

Great idea. Doing this by hand is killing me

Hello G&W. A good simple jig. Maybe you could fit small wheels to the base section and also on the router base section which could ride in grooves on the supporting curved guide. I will try this myself and let you know how I get on. My only doubt is that the wood chips may get in the way but I’m sure this could be overcome with a small fan.

Can you use the jig with the fretboard already glued to the neck?
@GWLuthierSupplies6 ай бұрын
Of course you can! Check the more recent video of the updated version of the jig: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYeqaXZ5psuBn6c

Hi, the thickness of the fretboard must be specific ? Does it matter if it is 4 mm or 5 mm or 6 mm thick?
@barcori4 жыл бұрын
Hi, compensation is caculated to 6mm, but you can do whatever thickness you need. You'll just need to settle it with a sanding block after.
@nicolashrv Жыл бұрын
@@barcorimakes no difference, if the fretboard is thicker than 5 or 6mm, the router will just remove more material.

Can this be used on a finished/replacement neck?
@nicolashrv Жыл бұрын
No, unless you first construct a jig to hold the specific neck totally straight and in a flat channel, so the router jig can move along smootly....basically, in this video you will have to replace the aluminium bar, for a "hole" were the neck will fit parallel to the ground.
