I really do believe that her best singing was in Italian opera. Of course, her German roles are legendary, but the beauty of her voice was in Puccini and Verdi.

She really was a different singer in Italian. It’s her rep I most crave listening to.

It really seems like she went from the soaring Verdi and Puccini straight into the biggest Wagner in 1975. There was no transition period
